This is the way. We found a rei resupply 22.5 Cochise Jr that was basically unused last year for my 10 yo. We got away with the 3 buckle adjustable roces for a couple years before that. They grow so damn fast that sinking if avoidable, id rather not sink big money into a boot .

Looking again now for him , now 11yo , 58 inches , 90 lbs and can rip pretty good on off trail steeps ,but not in the same league as alias's grom. No racing.

Any idea what flex I should be looking at here? Any specific boots (obv fit is paramount )

I would be on the look out for something in the 60-70 range for flex. Without the race background I would lean to softer. My kid was skiing a pair of Lange RC70s last year at similar size (on the Carson’s we are PMing about) and drove them really well. I ended up swapping him out to some full tilt boots for better comfort and warmth in January. They are for sure softer than the Lange’s, but he prefers those on longer big days out west.

Agree about suggestions for the lighter flexing boots. I made a mistake years ago getting a great ski swap deal on a small woman’s boot for my first kid when he was maybe 10 or 11. I think they were 90 or 100 flex rated. He barely could flex them, even in a warm indoor space, and he didn’t ski well for a chunk of winter before I figured out what was going on.

Discovered last night that my smallest kid’s 4th level hand me downs (gotama jr’s) needed a toe remount. Lotta holes!

Dropping this in here in case someone is stretching their size range to 160cm. Rossi Smash Jrs in great shape. Great skis for the intermediate+ grom looking all over the hill. https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...r-90-Look-NX11
