Well, I finally had a chance to look at them closer today, as I picked them up just before going into a 48hr shift. I realized it wasn’t a marker drill pattern, but a Look Pivot. I got excited and threw on some Pivot 14s I had handy. Then I realized it was setup for a boot with 10mm shorter sole. While I would be ok with having my boot 5mm back from the line, I couldn’t get the forward pressure right without the threads showing on the pivot heel adjuster. Looks like I’ll have to remount anyway. Now, I’m wondering if the Jerry I bought them from either was clueless about his bindings, lied, or didn’t know because he stole them.
Just get those Crows mounted up and get after it......
That’s probably an illusion of the floor. The Invictus had a 26.5 sidecut in 188. And the OG Corvus predates Julien arrival at Black Crows by quite a bit. It was their first ski.
They ski very similar to the Invictus, especially a broken in pair. I had the Invictus OG before they had the “108 ti” label. One of my favorite skis ever. If you love the 188 Invictus you should be on the 193 Corvus at your size. I’ve had the 188 and 193, the 193 isn’t more unwieldy it just has a bit more float and oomph.

Maybe the 193 would be better for me, but this one ended up as a pretty darn cheap option to try a ski I’ve never been able to demo. I do like the idea of a more pivoty Invictus. I liked that ski a lot, but I am excited to try a reverse camber version. Besides, I have so many big skis, it will be nice to have something for when I’m skiing with slower friends or the groms.
I’m 145 on 188s on the line; I’m not a in the tree guy.
Just got 183s - will do same!
I would of bought a 193 if I thought I needed it. But I don’t. The top speed on the 188 is full throttle. I don’t ski slow, ever, and I haven’t ever had to wish for more length.
Mirus Cor: Sizing ideas? I'm a little conflicted. 6'2" 160 lb. child-racer now 50 y.o. dad of teens. Looking for a carver to have fun on. 178 or 184. Feedback from owners or demos would be awesome.
I did a demo day on them. I was less then impressed. They are soft and ski fairly short. The edge hold is terrible on hardish snow for a bigger guy that can flex a ski properly. They would be fun for just messing around at slow speeds. Both of you should be on a 184 for sure. I’m just not enthusiastic about them. The reviews from a lot of owners complain about failing construction in the tail as well
Flexed em this week & they soooo soft. Thinking not an EC ski.
I have seen some of the quality complaints. I wasn’t sure if that was a covid build or just a Black Crows thing?
On my 2020 Corvus one ski was 120g heavier than the other one, BC refused to change them saying that it was "normal tolerance", but finally the retailer took them back.
I dunno, 120g is a bit much to me normal tolerance between 2 skis of the same pair is around 50g not more, I mean, I'm buying new in a shop, not factory 2nds.
Also, let's take a 1980g ski it's considered freerando/freetouring territory, you add 120g, at 2100g you're in the freeride ski category.
Id be concerned with a touring exclusive ski weight difference of 120 grams but will you be using the Corvus as a touring ski or more of a ram rod type ski?
I’d be happier with my Corvus if it came in 120 grams heavier in each ski I think. I wouldn’t mind more weight for better all condition destruction. I also know I wouldn’t notice 120g difference from one ski to another. I only care about weights on my touring skis anyway so I never weigh anything but my freebirds.
120gr in difference in weight should make for a difference in flex pattern or ride feel - or I could tell pretty easily at least.
I had a pair of Lib Tech Wunderstick 118s that were 127gr apart, and yes they skied differently. One was noticably softer / the other was noticably more ski. Mervin / Lib refused to warrenty them - I am no longer trying Lib skis for that reason. Their quality assurance procedures are.... lacking to be kind, based on my conversation with them - but then again most of their skis are not that interesting either.
Skis should be within 50grs or so of each other imho, even if the usual tolerance is +/- 50gr from a base weight. I mean, how hard can it be to keep things within spec?
But sure, obviously, the heavier a ski become the less it realistically matters (most Libs are pretty light). 2000 and 2127 or 2500 and 2627 would not be the same (even if 1400 and 1527 is prob even more noticable).
I guess I’ll just keep doing drugs and skiing so I don’t have to over think it. If I were a doctor I’d prescribe you boomers before skiing.
