Its crazy that you get people posting back to back with one saying how they want to get rid of basically all guns and the next person saying " no ones coming for your guns, no one wants to take your guns away"
    Bullshit you ingenious fucking moron.

There's like 20 cop cars at the Raleigh Shooting Academy Gun Range right now. The local news is trying to figure out what's going on there.

There's nothing more short sighted and ignorant and dangerous than ignoring pretending that (or any voting) element doesn't exist.... here or anywhere.

Some pretty scary stuff in an article about Card in the New York Times today: "The Signs Were All There. Why Did No One Stop the Maine Shooter?"
    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/02/u...smid=url-share

    A couple excerpts:
Robert Card displayed a textbook set of warning signs: He was hearing voices. He told people that he was planning violence. And his behavior had markedly changed in the months leading up to the mass shooting he carried out last week.

His family, his superiors in the military and the local police knew all of this. Yet no one stopped him.

His killing of 18 people with an assault-style rifle in Lewiston, Maine, points to how shortcomings in the mental health system, weak laws and a reluctance to threaten personal liberties can derail even concerted attempts to thwart violence in a country awash in guns.

“So often I think we’re talking about how to get people on the radar,” said Jillian Peterson, the executive director of the Violence Project, which studies mass shooting perpetrators. “And in this case, he was on the radar of a lot of different systems, and they still couldn’t get him intervention.”
Dr. Peterson and other experts on mass shootings say that this is a common misstep. Somewhere from 60 to 90 percent of perpetrators “leak” their plans to other people in advance. But people either do not take them seriously enough, or allow the person who made the threat to convince them that it is not genuine.
During a car ride in mid-September, Mr. Card punched a fellow soldier and threatened to “shoot up” the Army Reserve facility in Saco, Maine, and other places. The soldier texted a superior officer at 2 a.m., according to a copy of the messages obtained by The New York Times, warning him to change the passcode to the unit’s gate at their base and be armed in case Mr. Card approached.

“I believe he’s messed up in the head,” the soldier, identified as Staff Sergeant Hodgson, wrote, adding that he loved Mr. Card “to death” but “I do not know how to help him and he refuses to get help or to continue help.”

“I believe he’s going to snap and do a mass shooting,” he wrote.
To me this shows something that can definitely be done to reduce these mass killings and that is to act if you see these kinds of warning signs. This goes for co-workers, friends, family, and law enforcement. If someone tells you they're thinking of killing people you need to take that threat seriously.

Right, to be effective there needs to be legal means for taking action against someone displaying this behavior, but there's also an aspect of more people acting when they see this. Too often people see the warning signs but are hesitant to take it seriously enough.

My wife was mentioning Maine has a "yellow flag" law - yeah I never heard of it either. It perhaps could have made a difference in this case according to some, but ball was dropped.

They said "warning signs were missed". I'm calling bullshit. Warning signs were COMPLETELY IGNORED.

Scotty McCreery's been caught "accidentally" leaving a gun in his carry on TWICE.

I’ll throw it out there that I would totally sell my Ar’s to the government if they gave me a good price on them. I don’t need them and can definitely defend myself with a shotgun, which is what I would grab anyway if someone was breaking in. But I’d want at least more then what I paid and have into them. MSRP plus 20% would be fair.

I think paying over purchase price would be a worthwhile trade if that’s what it takes to get ARs out of civilian hands, but what’s the thinking there? Why is it not good enough to just make you whole?

It would be unAmerican to expect people to do the right thing without being paid for it.

Because it's not for sale. Just like anything else I own that's not for sale, it's going to have to be an attractive offer.

Get rid of the Assault rifle problem by treating them like dildos in Alabama. Illegal to own but the law is not enforced if you keep them in the house and hidden out of the sight of minors.

I blame the cops, especially in small towns. Everyone knows each other, “ sure we’ll take care of the guns jethro”.

There needs to be serious consequences for a dept that does not follow through. Otherwise, what good are laws.

Not that it will help the victims, but I hope they sue that sheriffs dept and everyone up to the Pentagon.

Whats the possible consequences faced by illegal ownership of a sex toy? Illegal machinegun possession in Australia is like a few thousand dollar fine. America has some of the most draconian and severe consequences for illegal gun ownership of anywhere in the world.
