Nothing, Cat is out of the bag and this is the cost of our "freedom"
Prison Time for gun owners who lose or have their gun stolen
Background checks and a waiting period for 100% of transactions
No semiautomatic anythings...
Tax gun sales with additional fee to go to mental health
Register ALL firearms and require insurance (car analogy)
Pro tip from a salesman.
It's very poor salesmanship to constantly be telling your customers how smart and rich you are as a reason to buy what you are selling.
Oregon 2023
"The state House on Tuesday passed a firearms bill that would ban untraceable guns, raise the minimum age from 18 to 21 to purchase powerful firearms like semiautomatic weapons and allow local agencies to ban firearms on government property."

Anyone who plays call of duty 30 hours a week in a dark room would be a good start..
IMO, the dichotomy will grow with red states eventually having literally no gun laws, while blue states will have lots of stuff go through the legislators only to die on the chiefs' & sheriffs' desks.
As for the country as whole, there will be a tipping point from which it'll go full Australia or Venezuela.
Probably a good start would have been to simply put a fence around these people and escort them straight to the pokey:

I agree these ppl are wack jobs but unlike the 60 thousand drug addict homeless petty crime ppl in LA, they don't have any criminal record.
Here's a dark thought: direct all mass shooters to the homeless people. 2 birds one stone.
I said it was a dark thought.
I'm an addict in recovery and lean libertarian.
If I chose to continue drinking until I was shittng on your property, breaking into your car to fund my addiction, go ahead and put me out of my misery.
^you’re doing a great job!
AA was helpful but not helpful alone.

To continue the trend in older white guys shooting with reckless abandon for apparent slight transgressions:
Damn kids get off my lawn!

14-year-old girl shot in head by neighbor after playing hide-and-seek on his property

Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.</p>
People are dumb. Therefore these hide and seek playing kids shoulda been armed!
Or at least have armed bodyguards around who can shoot first ask questions later.
That’s the solution apparently- because of some old guys from a time where women were too dumb to vote and black people could be owned and tortured - follow the wisdom of those dudes at all costs.
This is what the founding fathers wanted, please respect their divine wishes.

A can of worms indeed.
How deep a review into their medical records will legislators and voters accept?
Recent history of restraining orders or domestic violence is a no-brainer. But how far back should investigators look?
How about voluntary commitment [some arbitrary number of] years ago?
Is an Rx for anti-depressants disqualifying? Bi-polar meds? Schizophrenia?
Must applicants undergo a battery of psychiatric tests?
What kind of (increased) responsibility will mental health providers have to report people they think may be a danger to themselves or others? They are mandatory reporters in OR, not sure about other states.
And what is the procedure for getting yourself off “danger” status?
He saw "people running away" and shot. Brought to you by Carl's Jr
At least as deep as the military reviews medical records.
Anything more recent than 18 years ago (a "lifetime") should count.
Need a track record of SUCCESSFUL mental health treatment going back at least 5 years, and need a Dr's note every 3 months going forward. For any mental health issue.
No need for a battery of tests. A 20 minute interview should suffice. Something a little longer and a little more involved than the interview and paperwork needed to get TSA PreCheck or a NEXUS pass.
Healthcare providers should report dangerous individuals.
Getting off the "danger" list varies. For crime its 18 years clean. For mental health its showing a proven track record of succesful treatment, and showing continued successful treatment is being obtained.
Ill add that i think a physical fitness test should be required to own any non hunting specific firearm, or snubnose revolver. We want to make sure our militia is well regulated and in shape, right?
