If only there was something we could do...

Yeah, Nothing we can do here in the US because the gun lobby has spent decades and $$ to control the legislative and judicial narrative but apparently another country feels the need to do something after just two mass shooting incidents

Pretty soon the US is going to be an outlier on gun ownership and gun violence…… oh wait… /s

Good find. Images of the reality like that on the nightly news brought and end to the war in Viet Nam. Fact.

Ok, back to my original thought then. Ridiculously large (the likes of which have never been seen) public protests at federal and state capitals.

Not every district in America, but look how the abortion laws are changing.. If they voted at full state level instead of the shit fucked gerrymandered district reps in state legislatures probably 70% of each entire state would say no to this bullshit. I'd wager open and possibly even conceal carry will be 100% legal without permits required in those/these "pro life" jurisdictions next.

This is because people stayed home in 2014 at the local levels.. whitelash from the 2nd Obama election filled the local levels with GOP scum.. Then Trump filled the benches with judges to uphold the gerrymandering they did along the way to today. Man of those judges are lifetime appointments too.. But her emails! They screwed Bernie!!! Fucking dumbasses.. We're pretty fucked.

I believe that within the gun owner population there is a silent majority that supports stricter gun control… they are fine with an increased difficulty in obtaining firearms (wait periods, registration, mental health checks, increased age requirements, etc…) as long as the laws are logical and they can still pursue their firearm hobby.

    Boiled frog?

The number of mass shootings continues to rise and is above 1 per day so far this year. Well above 1 per day in 20201 & 2022.

The number of GUNz available/owned in the USA continues to go up and those are facts beyond dispute..

Will the frog jump out of the pot in time?

I don't give a fuck about polls, I know what I think and I think far too many people who can't wipe their ass are running around with a gun and no idea the responsibility they have with that tool/weapon and we are close to being numb to this shit.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Within the context of this thread, I'm firmly in the hell no category. If I could snap my fingers and we'd magically become Australia or Canada, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But before America collectively lost its mind I was ambivalent. Shooting's fun. Animals are delicious. But eight year olds, dude.

Yeah, I think (hope) you're right. I'm originally from the midwest, and all of my relatives had guns. Lots of hunting, and a little competitive shooting, but nobody "carried" or fucking LARPed. FTR, I'm totally fine with common sense laws, but fear we're past that point.

One of the top tweets I'm getting fed when I click on that.

Why is it these people think the average joe wants to sacrifice themselves and whoever else is in the car in this scenario? What a weird hero complex.

Same question when it comes to teachers putting themselves between a shooter and your kids. The only people who get recruited, trained and paid to do that are cops.

I recently watched a video where a former special operations guy who now is heavy into the "prepped life" business broke down a police bodycam video of them responding to a school shooting where several people died and unironically called it "the standard".

Nothing will change until the landscape of SCOTUS and lower court lifetime appointments changes. Thanks to all those who sat out 2016 or wrote in a 3rd party candidate.. I hope you're happy "you voted your conscience"..

I live in Idaho. I own guns. All of my friends own guns. And almost everyone I know is in favor of stricter gun control and would vote accordingly.

Me too. I like the notion that I have something if a Katrina level temporary collapse of local law enforcement and order happens. But, I'm voting for people who will restore sanity to who can buy what and where they can take the weapons that do make sense.. There needs to be a much higher bar for carrying a firearm in public. There needs to be way more restrictions on who can own high capacity semi automatic weapons and especially handguns again.. i.e. This is about the only thing I'd actually see returned to the way things were back in the 50s..

I wonder if everyone you know and other legitimate gun owners (hunters and target shooters)are more than a small minority?

I used to work in the hunting industry which obviously had a lot of overlap with a portion of the gun industry.

I think you'd be surprised. I knew gun store owners who strongly supported rigorous background checks.

If only there was something we could do...

Some family friends are the biggest hunters I know by a looooong way and are also the most liberal, anti 2A people you will find anywhere. They own more hunting related weapons than I can count, but zero AK type bullshit and are very, very pro gun control

So, The Silent Majority. When we realized that cigs were killing too many people we didn't ban them. We made smokers socially unacceptable. "Grooming" the kids in the schools to be anti smoker was an effective tactic. Making the marketing of cigs illegal worked.

Popped up in my FB feed yesterday. This could be illegal without offending 2A. Raffle to support a scholarship supposedly. I replied "If that was an eBike I would definitely toss a Jackson down."

There is a reason they are called assault weapons. Anyone defending them needs to take a strong look in the mirror.
