I've seen enough from him to make a decision.. He can't unring that bell no matter how hard he tries. He might be able to tone it down a little though..
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

The trans community really needs to let this go. A guy like Chappelle is not their real enemy even if they don't care for some of what he's said. Dave needs to let it go too, although it seemed like he sort of had after that last comedy special.

I'm a fan of Gervais' take: "Please stop saying "You can't joke about anything anymore". You can. You can joke about whatever the fuck you like. And some people won't like it and they will tell you they don't like it. And then it's up to you whether you give a fuck or not. And so on. It's a good system."

I think the trans jokes are shitty because it feels like Chappelle is punching down. I think punching up in comedy is a great way to speak truth to power. Punching down, not so much.

Yeah, it's not the stuff comedy is made of. But for all the willfully ignorant hot takes out there, it seems pretty clear from his own words that his problem is with the Twitter mob that he blames for killing his trans/comedian friend. And this is the guy who watched Michael Richards ranting the n-word and realized he was more comedian than black.

Chapelle got some shit about some stuff he said, didn't like getting shit for it, and then decided to double down instead of back off. You could say he pulled a Benny.

Punching down? Dave did an entire bit on “punching down”. You might wanna look it up.

Dave is speaking truth to power, specifically the power mad twatter mob.

    Chapelle Attacked

He told some jokes, he didn’t build an anti trans platform. At worst, he showed frustration as a black man being told he couldn’t possibly imagine the plight of a group of white people.

I agree that the hurt feelings and repetitive “look how much I like trans people” of his last special made it a bust. Which is fine, the previous five were hilarious, and those don’t include the two great specials he put out like 20 years ago. The guy is a comedic genius and is able to frame these issues in very poignant and funny ways. Hopefully he doesn’t let old and grumpy drive his comedy like so many aging comedians.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

This is the thing I think most people are missing. It's more or less his entire point. As a black man he's jealous of how relatively quickly the culture changed to embrace LBGTQ.
