I can’t think of too many comedians that stayed committed to their bit as much as he did. And his friends say he was a real sweetheart in his private life so there’s that.

As a Howard Stern fan since high school, I grew to really love Gottfried. Dude has over 120 appearances on Stern and every one was hilarious. One of the last great comics who didn't give a shit about how offensive or ruthless his jokes were.

Between him, Bob Saget and Norm MacDonald passing, it's been a tough year for old school comics.
