I am a larger dude at 6’2” 215lbs. I absolutely love BO118s, and find them making me ski super creative. It’s just when I get them in the air they have one of the worst swingweights I’ve ever felt. I actually wish they were 2-3cm longer, without getting rid of weight. I ski similarly heavy skis that are longer, but feel lighter on my feet. BOs feel like 191 Monster 108s in the air for me.

The 2025 Reckoner 124s definitely look like they’d suit me better, being softer and a bit more directional. Those and HL FR120. Revolts being so cheap caught my attention though.

Blops are fat, thick all over. Revolts definitely cut the thickness on the ends and focus it underfoot.

So 184's are not going to do it for ya, despite the splay they don't plane up in soft as expected.

Even with the 191s, I might be forcing something that shouldn’t happen. I’m itching for a 120-125 ski, but I know from experience the saying “buy cheap, buy twice”

I stayed away from the 121 since I wasn’t convinced I could jive with a more progressive mounted powder ski. I’ve been able to get along with a few modern shapes in deep snow over the past season, so I decided it was worth the gamble. We’ll see how that works out. At the blowout prices, I’m okay with being wrong.

I’m trying really hard not to pick up a blowout cheap 192cm Blaze 114 for Euro trip this winter. Thinking it might be a budget VWerks Katana but haven’t convinced myself of that yet, thankfully.

Yo, they might be spot on... or not. If it's your ski for whatever you'll encounter, go for it! Snow conditions in Yurp four months away is still to be seen. The alps don't always deliver freshies...

Truth. And if I can’t rip it on a VWerks Katana, I shouldn’t be skiing it. Whatever “it” is. I’ll save the cash for a guided day… money better spent.

Yep, I was thinking of the big Blaze 114 as a powder day only ski… and a Hobbit like me on a 192cm in those wide open spaces had me dreaming of billowing blower up over the shoulders. Not sure if a Blaze (even a 192) wouldn’t start to fold up at speed.

TBH, I think the VWKatana got you covered for >90% of what you can encounter. Coins for guides is a good call. They do it for us, not we for them!

I’m torn. I’ve wanted to try the R121s for a while, but money is probably better spent on a backup pair of Katana 108s from LevelNine.. or even better a weekday Mt Rose pass

Got some last years 184 R121’s on the way as I’ve always wanted to try them (have owned before but did not mount). Got some gold Pivot 15’s that should work on these. Assume 115mm Pivot brake not an issue on the 121.

Black Friday prices are nuts. There definitely must be some over supply? $380 CDN is like $270US? And free shipping.

Be fun to ski the R121’s head to head with the HB122.

Bandit where are you mounting your R121 191’s? I’m thinking on rec (-2.8cm) but I’ll decide when I get them.

I pulled out the new 114's and began prepping them for the season. Haven't mounted clamps yet but thought I'd put a coupla wax layers on.

And yet another pair of edge high volkls from the factory. My iron touches an inch on both sides leaving 2"+ untouched in the center.
    WTF volkl?

I wax my skis about every 3-5 days and the difference of a smooth base to a railed one is enough to make me second guess them from here on out. Had my M102's not skied so fucking well before the grind to flatten, I might forego them altogether.

Now I'm debating grinding them flat first or just trying them out edge high.

After four pair I abandoned Volkls because of weird shit like that. When they were good they were good. And when they weren't, I could never tell if it was me or them or the tune or what. But finally I moved on..

I'm running my 184 R121 - 2.54 or so. I played around on the demo ski a few years ago and found that to be the best spot.

Oversupply seems plausible. R121 is 298 EUR, while the R114 is 288 EUR in Euroland.

I'm gonna give 'em a go before I grind them. Gotta decide what clamp: STH1, PT16 or minty 997Eq's.

I fear that they will be bottom feeders, if so, they'll shortly go. I need a porpoise, not a submarine.

Anyone with R114 in 191 wants to trade for K108 in 191? Currently mounted with Jester 16 on the line for 315mm BSL. Will consider trading flat or with the bindings.
Top sheets are damn minty, base has one ptex weld, no damage to the edges.

Why - to get the edge high hookyness experience? I would sort them out from the to get go to have the proper skiing experience from the onset - there are only so much time on skis in a season so why ensure that a run on harder snow will suck?

Because my recent experience with an edge high M102 was that it skied superbly, almost flawlessly. Edge high.
I eventually ground them and they haven't been as dialed since. A common sentiment, well documented in this thread.

Wife did her first day on the 170cm Secret 102s I bought her (dirt cheap). I was slightly concerned that they might be a handful, but she was ripping all over the mountain (49 degrees North) and couldn’t believe how unflappable they were.

    Hear, hear!

And they've been underselling and on steep discount in the spring around here.

I think I've read all 40 pages of this thread yet I missed that it was the edge high experience that produced the Völkl precision. Especially for the wider pow skis.

I've found that edge high = skis that are hard to ski in dense snow ( due to release characteristics being off) when ease is kinda paramount, but by all means - try em.

I've had too many days (too many = >0) messed up by bad tunes, so my base assumption is that a ski is meant to be skied with a standard tune - flat bases and appropriate base bevel - not whatever tune it happens to show up with.
