Fortunately I starting tracking vertical early on as a measure of progress as a low intermediate in the late 1970's. Data was not computerized until the early 1990's though. Since 2007 with Excel it's very easy to filter data, answer questions in just a few minutes.
Since my mid-20s, I've mainly backcountry skied so I could add more places if I expanded my rules.
Backcountry is apples-and-oranges vs. lift service. Only 25 of my 1820 ski days are earned turns backcountry and 14 of them were in 2011 and 2012, mostly involved with the Antarctic trip or training for it.
Lesotho a while back in July
Winter is dry season at these latitudes and extremely so. Should errant weather come from the south during the winter, Afriski would not be likely to get much of it because it's on the north side of the country. Tiffendell, just south of Lesotho, got quite a bit of snow in June:

Unfortunately Tiffendell closed during COVID and reopening it will be difficult due to poor road access.

Didn't know this was a thread. I think I'm at 86 including the closed ones I hiked up. Would love to keep knocking a couple new ones off a year until I hit three digits.

This is great. A buddy just hit 100. I’m at 93.
    We decided our rules are…
    - includes heli/cat operations
    - bc location only if you can find a sticker… so I include Rogers, berthoud and tuckernan
    - include non merged mtns if they were independent when you skied em (ex: blackcomb, alpine meadows)
    Fun exercise!

Thanks, Mike. Hopefully though one day I can make it a little farther to the right to check out the Beacons thanks to all the inspiration you’ve provided.

    Skiing sure is fun.

Kind of sad that these types of lists will be so much harder / more expensive to obtain in the future. Easier with mega passes but to check off all of the other independent places it's going to get pricey with day tickets. I'm only halfway there with 51 ... not counting any backcountry or hut trips. But this is all since 2009 so not too shabby for 15 years, I guess. Grew up skiing and took about 12 years off, but any places I went to as a kid I've been back to since then.

CA: Northstar, Sugar Bowl, Alpine, Squaw, Tahoe Donner, Donner Ski Ranch, Diamond Peak, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Mammoth, June Mountain, Soda Springs, Bear Valley, China Peak (14)

Utah: Alta, Snowbird, PCMR, Canyons, Solitude, Brighton, Deer Valley (7)

Montana: Big Sky, Moonlight Basin, Bridger (3)

    Wyoming: Jackson Hole (1)

    Idaho: Sun Valley (1)

Alaska: Points North, Mt. Eyak (2)

Colorado: Vail, Breck, Beaver Creek, Telluride, Steamboat, Keystone, A-Basin, Loveland, Copper, Mary Jane, Winter Park (11)

Canada: Banff, Sunshine, Lake Louise, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse (5)

Japan: All 4 at Niseko, Sapporo Teine, 2 others I'm blanking on the names (7)

Get the Indy Pass (it's really great if you can get it as an add-on to your local pass) to hit those smaller indy's

I'm up to 109. Didn't really add any new areas last year but the lists posted by Charlesj and Ex-PB triggered some memories that were buried.

Rather than list them all, here's a summary:
    Vermont - 26
Europe - 18 (3 in Germany and 15 in Austria)
    New Hampshire - 15
    New York - 12
    Utah - 8
    Tahoe - 6
    Massachusetts - 6
    Colorado - 5
    Maine - 3
    Wyoming - 3
    West Virginia - 2
    Maryland - 1
    New Mexico - 1
    Pennsylvania - 1
    Quebec - 1
    Washington - 1

Mt. Spokane was my one and only in Washington

Only 23 areas west of the Mississippi is pretty impressive.

Quite a few of them are now closed. I've skied every currently open ski area in Vermont except Quechee, Lyndon, Brattleboro, and Hard'ack. I did include Glen Ellen as a separate ski area because I skied it before it became Sugarbush North.

I've been broke most of my life and a trip west of the Mississippi usually took a back seat to paying for 4 kids to grow up to be good human beings.

I feel like this whole "game" is easier on the east coast. NY has the most ski areas of any state, and the distances are often much shorter. Same with Europe, you can bust out all kinds of ski areas in relative proximity.

How do I count the skiing at EuroBBI? Is "Andermatt" just one place or is it 2 or 3?
