Come on , no one is up and exercising at 0500, that’s absurd

I said 4:00, not 5:00, but I'll stick to my assertion that more people are active at 9 p.m. than even 5:00 a.m.

I don't know, maybe you're one of these people who's in bed by 9:00 p.m. and don't realize that's pretty fucking early for most of us.

Yes there’s more people recreating and commuting a 0500 than there are at 2100. It has nothing to do with people going to bed at 2100. Maybe it’s the difference between living in a large metro with stupid commute times vs living in a small city with short commutes?

If you want to move the goalposts to 1900 then I would say that there’s more people out and about than at 0500. That wouldn’t be pertinent to the conversation though, no?

So what about 4:00? That was my question. Without DST sunrise would be at 4:11 at the solstice with civil twilight at 3:30 in Wenatchee. The first sunset later than 5:00 a.m. would be on August 12th.

That’s fine, gives you enough light to start your commute or head out to the trailhead. I’m aware of how early it would get light. If I wanted to sleep later I have drapes. Do people really stay in bed late during the summer? There’s a lot of people out and about over here at 0400. Maybe it’s the climate? I will say growing up in north Snohomish county I usually rose with the sun because I worked on farms and construction so the time didn’t matter. Maybe the clock means more to office workers?

The idea that more people would rather have sunrise at 4am than sunset at 9pm is dumb. Yes, there are people recreating at 4am. I do it too. I'm doing it so I can either
    1. Have solitude on busy trails or
    2. Get it done and home before work.

These early morning people will often be recreating that early regardless of when sunrise is. I know that's the case for me. I would way rather have a late sunset that I can enjoy out on the lake with family with more time after work. I suspect there are more people who agree with me based on the packed trailheads, boat launches and the lake itself.

I'm fine with status quo. It's really not that hard to remember and has almost zero impact after the first day.

Yes, the clock means more to office workers because we are often expected to be at work at a specific time that has nothing to do with where the sun is in the sky. It's no big shock that farmers have always been opposed to DST.

Bump the damn thing 30mins and leave it there forever. Not a fan of loosing an hr of light after work, having to get up at 230am for waterfowl in the fall/winter and then again to get the topwater bite in the summer. But it is what it is. Let’s just stop changing the clocks. It’s antiquated. One less thing for people to bitch about.

    Permanent Daylight Saving Time

BC was going to stick to one time with no changes. They hyped it up so much that they also convinced the Yukon Territory (their Alaskan style “hat” to the north) to do the same.

But then when the time came to do it BC got stage fright and balked - and left the Yukon spending half the year in sync and half out (despite having similar longitudes). Oops.

There’s a time zone in Nepal that is offset by 15min from its neighbors

Meanwhile China - with its significant east-west width - officially follows just one single time zone.

I've always wondered if places in the far west of China are expected to actually run on Beijing time, i.e. business opening times, etc. It's China so I suspect they are.

Then move to Newfoundland. But don't go dragging EST ahead an hour and a half.

Nice to see the kids at the bus stops, or walking and riding to school this morning.

Last Friday, on my way to work. Kid in the bike lane completely blacked out riding against traffic had me nervous watching cars pass him.

Sure the parents should have their kids outfitted better and taught better, but the fact is so many are not.

Standard Time is the safest time.

After reading all responses, my final solution is that all people incapable of dealing with time change twice a year should move to China. Or Arizona. At least one of the 2 has decent weather and food.
