Yeah, only the insane and the career criminal, which may be redundant, are going to stand behind this thing for as long as it will take for him to get to whatever stasis he thinks he can achieve. The Chechens were one thing, painted as non Russian southern Islamic nut jobs, but to convince Russians to essentially destroy a country that includes people just like them is a bridge too far. He really screwed up. But this is going to be with us for a long time. It's not going to be pretty.

Hand-wringing over purported Russian war crimes. As if there is such a thing as a legal war.

It might not be N. Korea, but don’t underestimate the power of propaganda:

There are ~7bbl of crude to a metric ton [specific gravity].

Royal Dutch Shell explored and drilled and produced and transported this oil with the $100bn of oil infrastructure Shell built out on fields Shell itself owns in Russia.
And this kinna shit [losing massive capital investment when governments change] is just one of the risks they run. Fortunately, they're experts at getting their $$ back....

This was Putin shaking Shell down BTW, holding their 30 years of capital investment in Russian oil hostage. Gangster Rules

Accounts of battlefield bravery have long inspired us. But the bravery of leaders of nations is often only witnessed in history or cinema—until now. I watch daily in awe at the monumental courage and leadership of
@ZelenskyyUa. God bless him and instill within us such character.

This was plain to see except those under the spell.

Constant barrage harsh words for NATO... calling then irrelevant and cheats for not "paying us"... going as far as call into question our support for nations that were 'under paying'. Shameful.

Putin never heard a non-complimentary word. "I believe him" and putting Putin's word over that of our Generals and intelligence. Sanctions...gone or reduced. Brought at his behest back into the G summit.

All for free. No concessions. No strategic relevant trade deals, arms reduction. Or anything. We. Got. Nothing.

It is simply amazing that we've been able to salve our long standing diplomatic relationships since... I doubt the trust has restored.

Because, as obvious as this all is to the rest of the world, Russians are being fed a steady stream of lies and propaganda and all forms of conveying reality are no longer "merely" censored (Russian's were never getting the straight goods anyway), but now ceased altogether. The US elected Trump for FFS. There are a lot of stupid, gullible, desperate, lost people in the US and Russia is no different; worse?

I've seen a couple clips over past 2 days with CBC correspondents on the streets of Moscow (when they could still be there) asking people about the war. The older folks support Putin is what I took away from it. The younger ones thought it was sad but not much more emotion. It was pretty messed up.

And yes, Putin is definitely gay (NTTAWWT), I agree.

Why didn't Putin invade Ukraine under Trump? Because the criminal doesn't mug the old lady when he's got her on the verge of signing her entire estate over to him.

I know it was all a hoax and whatnot, but it's crazy that while Trump's 2016 campaign manager was working for free he was also a highly paid pro-Kremlin consultant working on a plan to carve up Ukraine. Crazier still that same campaign manager was later caught up in a criminal investigation, agreed to cooperate, only to later back out, and was then pardoned by the President for his crimes.

That was a SAW lighting up the car bro, from a couple hundred yards away or more. With maybe some AK-12 when they ran out the old "Journalist" flag...

They're lucky they were Russians. If they were Americans or Brits, they'd have pumped 1000 rounds into that car.

    Agreed that it was enlightening
Also (sadly) kinda brings home the inevitability to Russia occupying UA in near future.
My fear is that Putin will go all Hama/Grozny on the civilian populace when asymmetric warfare begins. Which is dumb in the long run but I don’t think he’s thinking long term or rationally.

This thread continues to drift to polly ass and discussion of Trump. First, some of the stuff said about NATO is certainly true…I don’t know what the exact formula should be, but you can’t look at the defense budgets of the NATO members and not come to the conclusion that the US has carried more of the burden for many decades then it should. The other members have without a doubt taken advantage.

    Germany just admitted as much!

It would appear that even with free access to information…humans can’t help but believe what they want to and ignore the hard truths that require them to question their past conclusions/decisions. The Trump supports are obviously very guilty of this and of hiding from reality…but take a look at some of the post here and “news” lately. Listen to Biden’s state of the union….he literally claims the country is in a great place since he became president and people just can’t see it because they are depressed about COVID….not only does he appear to believe this shit….half the left does too.

It is going to be really hard for Russians that supported Putin in the past to change directions…same as republicans and democrats that are simply loyal to one party.
