From a humanitarian/Freedom Eagle standpoint this is a travesty.

From a Machiavellian power dynamic standpoint, Russia getting into a quagmire in a country we don’t really relate to while we gobble up contracts on energy supply and drill baby drill is a pretty decent outcome for the US. And it may force Europe and/or USA to innovate and get around to solving the climate issue without all the easy Russian natural gas flowing.

Or maybe it’ll just kill a lot of people. Ugh this sucks.

I don't think Biden is so cynical to hope that everyone bleeds dry. Is he smart enough to know that it may serve him best to have that happen? I would say yes. Is he hoping and doing what he can to put a stop the bleeding and suffering? I think, and hope so.
    sigless.

I don’t think he is either. But you bet your sweet ass the defense industry is licking their chops to sell defensive hardware to Europe and anywhere else they can argue Russia might threaten. And a protracted conflict greatly benefits them.

FYI this isn’t a conspiracy, I’m not saying they’re behind any of this, they just stand to benefit. A lot.

Biden’s hoping for a quagmire but it’s also not his desire? The fuck is wrong with you?

I'm quite sure he is all for getting Russia out of there as soon as possible. Obviously there are limits to what he can do unless we want to be in the war ourselves.

You are clearly not presidential material and that’s a compliment.

He didn’t hope for this to happen, and did everything he could to avert it. But as far as outcomes? Can you think of another that ends with Putin dead, deposed, or defeated?

    Ukraine

Can someone start a Bounty on Putin’s head fundraiser that I can contribute to. I’d kick in some serious coin to see that guy dead.

    Ukraine

let’s say russia left tomorrow. is swift just going to get turned back on, oligarchs property released, Ukraine happily rebuilds all of their smashed bridges, roads, and airports?

i just don’t see it, i think the world is more dangerous and the curtain is back until there can be a hard reset over putin’s corpse.

but i’m hopeful to see it - GTFO russia!

also, a few days ago i thought belarus had turned into russia, as in a full fledged province. but what seems to have really happened is that russia is now belarus. full fledged pariahs - can’t fly anywhere except china. losers.

Biden and the war drum beaters wanted it? And they're to blame since they've been antagonizing Putin since 2016?

but then Biden didn't want it? and he did what he could to stop it?

I'm not making a prediction but war is a contest of wills and so far Ukraine has shown much more willingness to fight. Even though Russia will wreak unimaginable destruction on Ukraine the Russians can still lose in the end.

My thoughts came from a headline that said Congress was warned this will be a very long term conflict.

Going back to the highway of death conversation the Kyiv independent reporting via twitter that Ukrainian AF destroyed a column in S. Ukraine with up to 800 vehicles. Will be amazed if confirmed.

While that is good, the Ukrainians are still losing ground with a few cities falling into Russian control today.

Saw somethign saying some russian offered a million dollar bounty to the cop that arrests hm for war crimes rigging elections etc. I'm too lazy to find a link. They tweeted it lulz, I'm sure don't live in russia and probably don't have a million dolars to spend, but might.

I don't know if oil reserves in Ukraine have been mentioned. This video talks about it around the 15 minute mark. The Crimea and Donbas seem to have oil/gas deposits. Putin doesn't want those deposits falling into Ukrainian hands, so better invade the entire country.

I'm only a dentist, but this looks existential to me.

It's immoral to leave Ukraine alone. Putin's been a loose cannon for over 2 decades. Does an aggressive dictator ever stop? Does an aggressive dictatorship stop? If we don't confront Putin's ideology now, when is better? He may pause a few years, but won't stop at Ukraine. Lukashenko leaked the map of quartered Ukraine and advancing into Moldova (not that it matters, Putin's behavior is same old). It's time to strategize, quickly. Perhaps time to move, also quickly. How many peaceful people and peaceful people's armies do we lose before fighting? Will we have more or stronger allies later? Regardless, pretty sure we need to act sooner or later - now may be a cheap opportunity to weaken Putin.

Sanctions only slowed Hitler and Hirohito. Modern examples don't look promising either. Transferring a few hundred million $ a day for gas and oil weakens sanctions also.

If a European nation wants to be the tip of the spear, that's great. But everyone should wield it. Probably as "little green men" in a vicious proxy war? I leave that to the diplomats and generals.

Don't fall for nuclear blackmail. Blackmail only gets more blackmail.

Keep an eye on Xi. I don't trust him either.

That option should be held open. Freezing assets is fine. They belong to the oligarchs. Not ours to take. The Russian people might have a claim, but that's for them to sort out.

And obscene wealth/redistribution goes in a different thread.
