There seems to be like 20 posters here, all long time posters that all know each other and are friends in real life. It's very cliquish, like a fraternity. They don't like controversy and seem to get angry whenever a thread drifts that way. But what I don't understand is if a person is averse to controversy, it is extremely easy to avoid that here. There are numerous users that read and post on the Ski Forum that never make their way to the Padded Room. And the controversial Padded Room threads are obvious and easily avoided.

This core group of 20 does not like me and wants me to go away forever. It's no secret. And while I may piss off 50% of users here, I am convinced 50% are actually interested in what I have to say, and I am interested in what they have to say. I don't post to get a response from those who hate me. I post because of other users that respond, who I believe promote interesting, higher level, discussions. If you want someone to go away, it is very easy. Don't engage them. Don't respond to them. Ignore them. Either skim over their posts, or put them on the ignore list if you have to.

Oh, and don't tell the person you are putting them on ignore. Just do it and you can go the rest of life pretending that person does not exist. People use, "I put you ignore" as just another insult sling.

I participate in other forums other than TGR and what they all have in common is they are dying. The reason they are dying is they are not attracting new users and they are loosing contributors. And yet, people actively try to chase away contributors, like babybear to me. And today, I saw someone telling dunderhead to just leave. I don't want to name names, but the provocateurs are what convinced me to start contributing here. IMO, they are the life blood and what separates this place from facebook, and Turns-All-Year, and NWhikers (other forums I get my mountain news from). I've been around since 05 and yet I really didn't start posting here consistently until COVID, which greatly reduced in-person social life. Good news is COVID is winding down so I can try more breathing, pulsing, social life rather than this social media garbage.
