Hopefully Timberridge redevelopment and W Middle Creek will eventually help stop talking about this parcel…if the money is there to do them. Maybe do something with that Post Office while they are at it. Something for families if they are feeling plucky.

    Wow. That’s messed up

The artist rendering is nice. Using a small part of the lower slope for worker housing.
Most of the parcel would be sheeply.

But. This is more about the transfer tax fund. They have money in the bank. And they want to spend it.

fuck you, Vail. Gary's support of local community trail groups with his trail running series is legendary. https://garyrobbinsrun.com/blog/2023...wn-in-whistler

It continues to astound me just how many grievances a small niche sport like ultra-running has with pretty much everything.

Name a race, and I bet you there is some middle-aged, never was actually good at sports douche bitching about something related to it.

Maybe AdironRider should start working for Vail. He seems to have the right attitude. What a douchebag.

Enough people who don't care as long as it doesn't affect them directly who will sign up. Hoping to get to UTMB. As long as it doesn't coincide with an Ironman. Which it won't because it's the same company. So much money sloshing around.
I hope people don't sign up, and definitely don't volunteer for a for-profit organization with predatory sketchy business tactics that view you simply as a source of revenue and nothing more.

Surely, your ass toot sensibilities can detect that there's only 1 reference here to "bitching about something related to ultra-running".

Granted, it may have taken a bit more acumen to detect that some of us are no longer able to be considered "middle aged", but certain short bus mistakes can be forgiven.

Is this supposed to be about Gary Robbins? Never good at sports?

as someone thats raced wam, ive been annoyed with all the will it/wont it but his take was informative. i unfortunately think the event will sell out given the utmb name and 'stones' available. i also think itll be mostly non-locals and would be a little embarassing for anyone part of the scene to support this.

i found it wild that races are acquired like businesses. also that utmb stole most of the route! interested to see what competing race he comes up with.

I guess we need to post a sports resume before we do any bitching.

My under 12’s soccer team won the league in the fall of 1988.

Do the math, that makes me 47, soon to be 48. Squarely middle-aged and pretty young over here on the Tgrz these days.

What are we bitching about, or shall I say what is Gary bitching about? Oh yeah, he’s bitching about Ironman. No not the race distance, but rather the Condé Nast owned race organizers that have infamously been fucking anyone and everybody for a decade. I raced 3 of their races including a World Championship, and I think that’s a fair assessment. No fun jelly.

What is the fascination with racing at Whistler? Surely there are other suitable venues.

I imagine things like access, parking, lots of lodging, etc. It sure seems like a great place for a race to me.

Unless these races are charity events (which lots are) they are businesses. An entrepreneur builds a race over years and a brand name. You can keep making money off of it, or sell it. What is sketchy (according to Gary Robbins) is that he built this race, UTMB offered to buy it, and he refused. So they took it, with Vail collaborating.
But yes it will sell out. The same way people want to do Ironman and all the other big races. Bragging rights at the office.

I like doing trail races, but the entry fees have gotten kind of to the point where if I am going to a race a group of like 3 friends, we can take the $600 total fees and go do something super fun like [/hookersandblow].

With all this Vail CEO talk, I gotta wonder how my relative that moved there in the early '80's is fairing with Vail. He seems to love the place and the culture of the place. I'm sure Nathan is feeling some of the pressure, but alas he's a rastaman and probably couldn't care less.

Anyone know my relative, Natron Smith at Vail?

I remember when he moved to Vail from Madison, Wisconsin and his Dad was really concerned with his "life" choices and smoking cannabis frequently.

Early 80's? He's probably living well in a paid-off house/condo sitting on millions in equity. And he's probably still smoking lots of weed.

You should do it. How do you feel about $250 lift tickets?

Does Vail have "buddy" passes? I look nothing like Natron so I couldn't just use his season pass.

    I have no idea.

    I avoid that place.

    'Cause Vail sucks.
