Greatful Dead help for a newbie

For whatever reason, I'd never listened to the Dead

randomly typed Greatful Dead into limewire and took a listen

    I'm hooked

    Unbeliveable music

Anyone wanna help point me in the right direction as to what albums/live shows I should definately check out?
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

    My picks:
Skullfucker (Skeleton w/ Roses entwined) - live, excellent sound and tight arrangements. it has always been my favorite.
Live Dead - classic SanFran street party set.
Workingman's Dead - classic; mix of influences; blues/boogie/jugband/bluegrass.
American Beauty - classic; acoustic w/ great vocal harmonies.
One for the Faithfull - live acoustic set. small hall w/ intimate sound.
Europe 72 - another live set but electric. "China Cat" turns into "Going down that road..." not bad at all!
Wake of the Flood - very good, too. "Eyes of the World" is a favorite.

I would explore that deadhead link that was provided. plenty of info, links, and tunes.

Check out "With Out a Net", it's a double live cd from 1990. It's not one show, but just songs from shows from 1990 prior to the passing of Brent Mydland spliced together. It's not classic Dead, but the Eyes of the World w/Branford Marsalis is worth the cost. There are variety of songs from different eras.

Well said Artie. Also, I think that the China/Rider is pretty good. It is certainly not a bootleg, but it gives some of the feel of live Dead with better sound quality.

Like Artie said, "Live With Out a Net" is a pretty good start.

in my misspent youth i saw dead shows all over the east.
but my advice for a newbie is
it's GratefulL Dead. you may get more hits on limewire that way. though there is really no need to bother with limewire with all the shortens and flacs on www.archive.org

How about some Jerry performing at Squaw Valley? It's not Dead stuff - more like bluegrass if you can dig it. Jerry with David Grisman (mandolin player from Old and In the Way among others) and a couple of songs with Bela Fleck from '91. The Friend of the Devil is off the fucking chain.

    Downloadable at GDLive.com

Or some old-ass Dead? Get Dick's Picks 22 recorded at King's Beach Bowl (North side of Tahoe). February of '68. One of the drummers (don't remember which) broke his wrist skiing during the trip.

Any other ski-related Dead I am missing?
