    Mechanical question:

I have creaking coming from the front end of my bike. It's noticable and I'd like it to stop.

Is it my shock? My stem/topcap? Stem bolts? Do I need to loosen everything and grease? Do I need to check proper bolt torque and put anti-sieze on them?

    Thanks.

That's step #2. Step #1 would be to try and figure out where it's coming from by tugging and twisting different parts of the bike. Is it when you pedal, corner, twist the bars, etc?

It could always be the most lovely occurence of the cracked frame/fork; but probably isn't.

IS it the stem, bars, steerer tube interface? Put Teflon tape and grease on on everything in that order and retighten.

Teflon tape in everything? I've only used that on bottom brackets...

It works everywhere to prevent creaks. Just put a little around the bolt threads. I wouldn't use it for the topcap bolt. I just usually use it for pedal threads, bb, and pinch bolts on the stem.

What the others said but one more thing:

CHeck to see if there is any play in your headset: lock the front brake, put your free hand at the lower fork race, rock the bike back and forth. If there is any play ytou should feel it pretty quick.

Hope it is not an ovalized head tube. This would happen if you were dropping and crashing on a bike that is not really built for big drops and heavy people. It doesn't happen too much these dys, more with older bike.
    Good luck.
Recently overheard: "Hey Ralph, what were you drinking that time that you set your face on fire?"

It also happens if you ride with a loose headset for awhile...

Could try to grease the steerer tube as well.
