    Amazing (yet dreadfully sad) images. Aerial views always give a perspective that the simple plan view cannot portray - the spatial sense of the devastation.

    What's really evident to me is the fact that the outer edges of the parish seem to be above water. If you look along the norther shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain, there are large areas that weren't flooded. But, as you move inland, the flooding worsens dramatically. They talk about the sinking of NO, but they didn't mention that is was a sink. It's like the city was designed to flood.
