Where is the national support for the people devastated by the hurricane? I really don't care about international help. This was a catastophic event, compared to Sept. 11th and virtually any other disaster that has happened here. Millions of people have been displaced and had their lives destroyed. After Sept 11th, there was a massive outpouring of support, aid and patriotism. In comparison, there has been hardly any, given the area destroyed and shear number of people affected, when imho there should be more.
I'm not talking about just the government, I'm talking about the citizens. All I hear from this place and in general is, "how is the hurricane going to affect me?" and worrying about gas prices. Other than that, people seemed to have already all but stopped talking about it. Have we as a country lost everything we learned after September 11th? Is it because our government seems to be ignoring whats going on in our own home? What the hell is going on?
Maybe it's the part of the country I'm in, the people I work with or something else. It just seems strange to me.
