But I haven't done that in many years. The only exception I made was that my La Sportiva Vapor Nano had multiple suggested mounting points. Otherwise, I look at the official line, shrug, and mount as recommended.

Whew, got it canceled- if anyone sees a sub kilo ski with a high 70’s waist, let me know!

You obviously don’t own any praxis skis as they require 10+ page threads on mount point minutia!

Those non-UL 78s do ski like a dream if you’re good with the short-radius.

I’m considering getting a pair of low teck bindings (trofeo 10’s). I’m curious weather or not they’re a good fit for me or if I should stick with more “full feature” bindings. I’m not the strongest skier, but enjoy moderate steeps on moderate snow. Boots are atomic backlands, not sure if I I’ll get new skis or not, currently BC orbs. Any thoughts?

    Pros:
Easy transitions, light(obviously), high quality, few moving parts to fail, amazing walking efficiency.

    Cons:
Difficult to turn the heel sometimes, relatively low risers if you like high ones. Also less sophisticated release than heavy, complex stuff.

Brakes vs leashes is a tough tradeoff for some folks, I’m generally fine with leashes for most touring.

anyone have any time on the helio recon 95? looking for a ~1500g funky conditions spring ski, and there are very few options (surprisingly!?). Everything is either <1300g or 1800g, and the infamous mtn 95 is no more.

Try the Dynafit Beast 98. I have the 108 and it’s great, tracks amazingly well in weird spring snow

Anyone got a recommendation for a touring ski suited to steep icy slopes? Thinking the following criteria:

    - To be used with Tecton / Vega (I've been rattled out of ATKs before...tecton feels reliable)
    - 20m radius or close to it
    - 85mm underfoot or thereabouts
    - Bonus marks for tip notch

Dynastar M-Vertical Pro seems to be the best choice right now. Anyone skied the thinner Waybacks (82mm)?

I wish there were more skinny skis with longer radius. I’ve tried the Trab Maestro and found the tails very difficult to release. Haven’t tried the blizzard zero g or waybacks, but have heard good things about the k2s. The Black Crows Solis and V Werks Mantra are great but heavy and wide. The Moonlight Traverse or Mountaineer could be good for you but there aren’t many reviews of them. I read one good review of their Mountaineer ski though.

Second the Zero G 85. They have an uncanny ability to hold an edge on very firm snow without feeling too locked in

I have a pair of very lightly used (5 touring days) 184 Beasts I'd be willing to sell for a good price

In the same vein as Moonlight skis, SGN, another Norwegian skimo company, also has great touring skis, particularly suited for glaciers/icy surfaces. Their current 80ish waist models seem to be sold out, but in their outlet section, they have killer deals on the older model, Tylderingen. 81 or 82 waist with 21m turning radius, plus pretty light build.

SGN is usually pretty expensive and so these prices are great. At the current exchange rate, the carbon build is $500 USD and the normal build is $450 USD. And because you're exporting out of Norway, the local 25% VAT is excluded, meaning the real price to you should be $400 and $360 respectively. Shipping should be around $50 USD.

    https://sgnskis.com/en-us/pages/outlet

And yes, I own both Moonlight and SGN skis.

Welcome back everyone. Skimoco has a nice discussion of the new 1kg boots, including fit information: https://skimo.co/race-plus-touring-boots

Curious how that quantum evo will fit. That looks perfect. Good buckle placement and design

Agree. The Asolo Factory had that cord cuff-tightening system that seemed good, but slipped about half way down a run according to a trusted source. Too bad, because the fit was great.
This seems like the year that the boot manufacturers copied/figured out the 1 kg boot. I bought the Scarpa, F1 LT and am happy.

Very excited to try some of the new boots, I had a hard time getting any of the existing 1kg-ish boots to fit my hobbit feet. Thinking there's some hope for either the new technica or Salomon to work out. And at least it sounds like you can punch them...

The only boot in this weight class that fits my foot is the dynafit TLT 8. The tlt 7 didn’t, the Asolo factory I can’t even get my foot into, and most of the Salomon, technica, La sportiva, etc have a similar issue for me. Hiiiiigh instep.

If you ever make it to Kelowna, I have a pair of 27.5 you can check out... Asolo factory version. Looks like same shells and entirely different buckles/walk mode which would make for an amazing boot.
