It's going to take at least *two* extra hours just getting THROUGH Denver. Any day of the week, any hour of the day.

    Google tends to be optimistic.

And tell your mom to HTFU.

His Mom is right. People think the smoke in SD is from the western fires, it's actually just from locals vaping. Skipping that state is a good call.

Without looking at a map, Maybe i80 to Ogallala, NE? Nothing fancy, but the standard interstate hotel rooms there (Hampton Inn, etc.)
I stayed in Chamberlain during the return phase of my Beartooth roadtrip earlier this summer and am quite certain the accommodations would not meet her requirements.

This is the right call... albeit too late now.

I mean - now that it's too late, I'd suggest banging a right on E-470 before you get to DEN proper and going north to stay over in Greeley.

Perfect. This is what we’ll do. Thanks for the suggestion.

Writing notes by hand while seeing a lecture (I’m sure zoom even works) reinforces memory.

I could google that shit, but I’ve seen multiple studies. And I know it works firsthand.

And I think it works better writing with a pen. (Havent seen any studies about typing notes)

Core Shot is right here, though. Studies do suggest that people retain more information when taking notes by hand in comparison to either not taking them or taking them on a computer.

Any studies to show that you do better in class if you actually go to class? I won't believe it until I see it.

Might be that whole furin thing

If you didn't understand my e-mail thats your problem cuz I never worried about spelling or sentence structure,

Letting inbox e-mails pile up until they were no longer relevant and just pf4

low parts costs, really good mean-time-to-repair and high customer SAT are the only ways I hung on to the bell

Class Attendance in College: A Meta-Analytic Review of the Relationship of Class Attendance With Grades and Student Characteristics
Marcus Credé, Sylvia G. Roch, Urszula M. KieszczynkaFirst Published June 1, 2010 Research Article
    https://doi.org/10.3102/0034654310362998

    Abstract
A meta-analysis of the relationship between class attendance in college and college grades reveals that attendance has strong relationships with both class grades (k = 69, N = 21,195, ρ = .44) and GPA (k = 33, N = 9,243, ρ = .41). These relationships make class attendance a better predictor of college grades than any other known predictor of academic performance, including scores on standardized admissions tests such as the SAT, high school GPA, study habits, and study skills. Results also show that class attendance explains large amounts of unique variance in college grades because of its relative independence from SAT scores and high school GPA and weak relationship with student characteristics such as conscientiousness and motivation. Mandatory attendance policies appear to have a small positive impact on average grades (k = 3, N = 1,421, d = .21). Implications for theoretical frameworks of student academic performance and educational policy are discussed.
It's interesting that they find that class attendance is a positive predictor independent of SAT scores (expected), but also measures of conscientiousness and other measures of motivation. I'd have thought it would have been correlated with the latter two pretty strongly.

OK, we got 2 of 3 most obvious things to do in college nailed down as facts, now what about paying attention? Does paying attention help you if you go to class? Any studies? Does paying attention to what the professors say get you better grades? (I'm not being serious here btw)

They're really no tricks for success in college / university.

Either you want it, or you don't.

No organizational plans. No balancing one's social (or ski) life with academic endeavors. No "plan on this", "don't do that" (or "just do it in moderation"), no special study tips, no which college job is best, ad nauseam.

Stealurface831, if this is something that if you really, really want, and you're ready for the challenge, you will figure it out very quickly, and engineer your own personal path towards success in academe. You'll attend classes because you fucking want to. Your notes shall be copious and well-written. Whatever decisions / choices you'll make, no matter what, will be subordinate to your quest for personal excellence.

Best o' luck, Kid. The next 4-5 years is gonna be a great ride (7-8 if you're going to ucla). Fucking enjoy it!

You laugh, but so many college students don't do it and make up justifications why it doesn't really matter (e.g. it's all in the book, I can download the lecture notes afterwards, etc.).

A favorite thing my surgeon uncle said once is that in the old old days the language was you took a degree. “Mr Davis took a degree from Yale.”
That’s right, go and take that degree, do all the work in a way you can be proud of, write great papers, blow a math professor’s mind with a perfect final.

Meet cool people, manage your time and enjoy the freedom you can have by carefully managing your schedule.

Ski every day, not just because of skiing, but because skiing will help your unconscious mind assimilate knowledge. I used to go out to surf with a paper to write or a project to plan or a big lecture to make sense of, and after surfing, not actively thinking about it at all, it was magically all organized and I’d kinda finalize it all on the ride home, and then it was all efficient execution when I got back instead of wracking my brain trying to get organized and spinning my wheels being inefficient. Getting out of your own way and letting the processing power of your subconscious go to work while you enjoy yourself is absolutely essential.

    I know that

It was a little more sporadic when the drugs happend in last year but mostly i showed up at HS

and always went to work & fixed the HW no matter how spaced or hungover

fixing HW when you were messed up had its benefits in that you were too fucked up/ couldn't remember what TO second guess so every problem was a new one and there were no preconcieved notions
