You can sleep when you graduate.

Friends and I saved a ton of $$ being dirt bags. It’s a good time to try it.

moved in a few hours ago. walked in the room and met my roommate. he was seated at his desk playing a game on his pc. my parents and i just kinda stood there awkwardly while he explained that he was in the middle of a game. we just started bringing my shit in before he even turned around to acknowledge us. just completely dismissive. i've tried to engage to no avail.

It'll be a while before you get there, but in grad school when reading TONS of research articles I definitely benefited from printing them and reading through with a highlighter rather than just reading on the screen.

Often going back to my highlights was helpful, but even if I never looked at it again I think that level of thought/detail during the first read definitely helped with longer term memory of the content.

and just realized I missed the moving in comments.

Hopefully things work out. Does he have any outdoor gear stashed around the room that might indicate he sometimes steps away from the 'puter?

On the bright side, you don't have to worry about him constantly locking you out to bang chicks in the room. Give him a chance though, maybe he'll get over his shyness given time.

he does have a board and says he hopes to get a Bridger pass.

he just initiated conversation by asking me if i watch anime. he is now playing an anime game. i asked if he smoked and he said from time to time so there is that. honestly, he seems like a perfectly nice guy, just a lil aloof and pretty fkn weird. should be interesting.

Here’s to hoping this comment doesn’t end up quoted in a news article some day!

Also consider that while he's gaming you're also online, you're just talking to a bunch of middle aged dentists instead of killing cartoons.. lol

Just don’t reference your “older male Internet friends” - any TGR stories need to be attributed to “friends from home” or something.

Everyone is a bit weird. My kid's freshman year roommate is very weird/different cat but they ended up living together all 4 years. It's good to have friends different than you, that's part of college. You never know who has hot and/or dtf friends.

Odds are it's not the weirdos.

I was paired at MSU with a guy from Havre who came from a remote ranch. It was sometimes fun, mostly shitty though. Gaming guys are chill at least.

Yeah I got paired with a WWE loving, straight edge, ultra religious kid from eastern MT. He made it one semester and I got my own room. Not that it matters now with legalization but those were the heyday of Roskie.(pretty sure me and muted were there bout same time).

hahaha, it's true that you're probably 20 years under the median age around here. It's cool, you're an old soul.

QFT. You have an orthodontist back home who likes skiing, weed, and attempting to precisely locate upstate.

    Yes.

But I see hilarious opportunities to prank your nerdmate

The obvious one is asking if he has change for a nickel. With a straight face. With an actual nickel in your hand.

Repeat daily until he flips out.

Whoever said attending class but borrowing notes is great is giving bad advice.

    Scientifically proven.
Writing notes by hand while seeing a lecture (I’m sure zoom even works) reinforces memory.

I could google that shit, but I’ve seen multiple studies. And I know it works firsthand.

And I think it works better writing with a pen. (Havent seen any studies about typing notes)
Some shit about lymbic brain stem cross linking neuron pathway shit.

And yet, I can’t get my kids to do it.

So scribble notes. Just the main points.

Even if you don’t read them.
I found what worked best for me was to record the lecture.. pay attention while in lecture, and take notes here and there. Then go back and listen to the recording to make more detailed notes.
Different methods work for different people, different classes as well. In some classes I had no choice but to basically copy the whiteboard. Those classes where I had to copy the whiteboard my professors were cool with letting us take pictures of the board so we could be more involved during lecture, but still have everything from the board for later.

Office hours are also legit. Professors are there to help and building a relationship helps in the long run.
