The offer was less than 30% of current retail, paid out in 60 days - Or consignment or Store Credit.

Definitely not a seller's market anymore
What's their commission if you do consignment?

If reasonable, that seems like the best for all parties involved. You get your stuff sold through an established seller, which increases the value. They make a commission without having to lay out any cash prior to the sale.

I’m waiting for them to start selling bikes without serial numbers. Guessing they’re working on a marketing spin first.

Their commission is 40%. I've tried to message to see what happens on commission if they don't sell in a reasonable time, but I get 404'd trying to use their contact page.

You're not wrong on the idea that commission is the way to go. However, for sellers, it negates two of the USPs
    1. Known Payment
    2. Immediate Payment

Both of these result in "no-hassle", which is reason enough for me to sell at a lower cost. E.g. Let's say I could get $150 more myself, but I have to answer 20 messages, meet some d-bag in a cold parking lot, etc. It's worth my time to sell to TPC.

However, I'm not cool with sending my expensive merchandise off to receive a check in 60 days. If that's the case, I want more than bottom dollar for my stuff. From their end, I get it, I bet they're tight with Open to buy dollars so they're working on "terms". This solves one problem for them, but will ultimately impact their business as they're going to have less product from fewer seller.

With this model I'd rather go to ebay sellers like "BuyTheMojo" because Patrick is a cool guy and charges less commission.

Yeah, that's a no for me.

I sell some stuff via consignment at our local 2nd hand store. They keep 25%, which is worth the complete reduction in hassle for me, at least on some stuff. I don't sell much bike stuff through them though - mostly ski stuff.

Locally I think it is 80% store credit or 50% cash

A pair of dumb Shimano RX880's that only work with 12speed microspline road cassettes despite the listing saying they were 11sp compatible.

    For Buy The Mojo it's 35% under $500 and 20% + a fee over $500.
I think the variable structure is good. 40% of $3k is substantial!

2 times the price! That’s worth any potential “hassle” above and beyond sending stuff to TPC

FWIW, I sell a ton of stuff each year, and I personally think the perceived "hassle" is way overblown.... especially if we're talking the difference of several hundred or a few thousand bucks. Sure I get the occasional "Is this still available" shit from FB, but IME buyers from Pinkbike and here on TGR are much easier to deal with. Even buyers from Craigslist seem pretty decent lately, and they've done a good job minimizing spam.

@smmokan - Yeah. Agreed. Although, we may have a better & more knowledgeable market living where we do.
I'm also trying to sell a gaming monitor and that has been a nightmare. Bike stuff seems to go easier and with less hassle.

I've been an avid buyer/seller of gear for the last 20 years and it's so much easier with all the resources we have these days. Facebook, CL, forums, etc. When I worked in a consigment style shop at one point, the main people that brought stuff in were wealthy folks who don't care how much they get back. Luckily for the pro's closet, there's plenty of that on the front range. Anyone who really needs the money takes the time to sell their gear on their own typically, some just make it seem real hard to answer 5 messages and ship/meet somewhere when it really isn't.
