    Where to go in Mexico

Looking for a good place to surf in Mexico. Planning a trip in late January. I surfed for the first time last year on Oahu, south shore only. I'm looking for some 2-4 ft waves and more beginner breaks. I was thinking about somewhere in southern mexico from Acopulco to Puerto Escondido. Any recommendations?

Puerto is a summer break; & is by no means good for a begginer but if you would like to try pre order a wheel chair before your trip!! It is one of the meanest beach breaks around. There are some other areas around Ixtapa that may be better suited for a beginner. Only problem with mex is that the rental boards tend to be pretty shitty.
If you really want to do a surf trip contact one of the travel companies that cater to these kinds of trips, they will be able to hook you up with what you are looking for.

Check: charteradventures.com. The web-site's a bit amatuerish but it gives you a good idea of the waves and vibe in the area. He's a gringo who sailed down from Seattle a couple of years back and has since set up shop doing charters. Plenty of ski tales to be swapped during breaks too. Good times for the five weeks I was there, for sure.

    Go Natural, bro

Don't pay any attention to guys who post Pipeline photos and quote 80's surf flicks in response to questions about mexico.
Wanna go cheap? I don't know where you're travelling from, but try to book a cheap Jet Blue flight into San Diego. Bring some minimal camping gear, rent a car equipped with Mexican Insurance, and drive into Baja. You'll score some great local breaks from Salsipuedes down so Punta San Jacinto (aka Shipwrecks). All within a day's drive There are surf campsites all along the coast where you'll meet cool folks and get great pointers (surfing and surf-travel wise). Go natural. If you book one of those surfing charter trips you end up getting the same, generic experience that so many others do. Check out www.santabarbarasurfing.com and read the Aug 26th posting about a baja trip. . you'll get a good idea of the rewarding experience of self-guided travel.

And bring "In Search of Captain Zero" to read in your tent. You might just end up staying there.

u will die if you surf puerto escondido.....

baja is your best bet. i live in todos santos part of the year...which is about a half hour north of cabo san lucas on the west coast. There are a few beaches just south of here that are mellow and cheap. The San Pedrito Rv park and campground rents oceanfront palapa campsites for like 3$ a night. You can surf there or head a few miles south to cerritos which is also pretty mellow most of the year. lots of good folks down in these parts and u will find many more surf spots once you are here. Boards are hard to come by down here so bring a spare.....all u can get are OLEA boards and they are expensive......
