I wonder what the breakdown was for leisure vs. business travel on Concorde? My gut tells me most of the Concorde passengers were flying for business and the way things have changes in terms of business travel I'm not sure that market is there anymore.

edit: that was easier to find then I thought it would be "Before service resumed in November, both airlines had kept in contact with frequent Concorde fliers, 80 percent of whom are business travelers..."

I just noticed they're claiming they will be flying passengers in 2029. Not a snowball's chance in hell that will happen.

I think it’s safe to say market dynamics have changed
The COncorde team decided to do some market research. They asked businessmen how much they thought a Concorde ticket cost. The answer, “Most of them didn’t know. It was their secretaries or travel companies doing the bookings. When they were asked to guess, because they were senior, very important people, they all guessed that the fare was higher. ” – explained Captain Jock Lowe, Concorde resource & Planning Manager.

PE and VCs will take low hit rates because it only takes a few (or one) unicorns to make it worth it.

Still pretty amazing to me how the Concorde first flew 52 freaking years ago (1969). Seems that asides from cheap airfare, air travel has devolved significantly. I remember as a kid thinking that if we had such luxurious, supersonic travel BACK THEN, oh what would air travel be like in 2020+?! ...sigh... oh well. At least it's dirt cheap. Or something.

We rented a houseboat on Lake Cumberland for 4th of July in undergrad that had a “bonus” room on the roof by the hot tub that got dubbed the Boom Boom room for a variety of reasons.

Supersonic speeds could have really upped the ante on the goings on that happened in there.

The X59 is what folks should pay attention to IMO. If they're able to fix the sonic boom issues that the concorde had we'll be able to fly over land...makes flying coast to coast fur the day feasible.

The industry term is "bus riders". As soon as the airlines saw them as a potential revenue stream, it was all over.

Sonic is already taken, so...Boom it is. Would have been better to go with Boom! That exclamation point adds a certain bit of excitement.
