Is that the Asotin fire? Or did one move into Hells? I was down there in mid June and it was the hottest and driest I’ve seen it ever. I grew up about 1.5 hrs from there and have been floating it for 20 years since I moved so yeah, scary dry.

Typical federal judge wrt F&G or public land violations. I had a couple cases were the ticketed party admitted to what they had done to the judge and they walked or got a slap on the wrist.

Yeah the fed natural resource justice system is pretty fucked. They want big investigation cases for major crimes because that’s what they’re used to dealing with.

Send them resource violations and they don’t really give a shit. Even finding an AUSA to take a lot of these cases to court can be difficult.

    Wildfire 2021

Yep - BC is hard up when they call the lawyer to act as a structure protection specialist!

But I think we made some nice sets. Hopefully they aren’t tested but if they are here’s a prayer that they work as designed.

Had an exciting first 48 hours - things were calmer today. Click image for larger version.

    Bootleg Fire, SW Oregon

Oregon's Bootleg Fire more than triples in size to 143,607 acres

(CNN)The Bootleg Fire in Oregon has more than tripled in size since Friday, gaining more than 100,000 acres, according to the US Forest Service.

The fire had burned 143,607 acres as of Sunday morning, up from nearly 39,000 acres on Friday, the latest update from the service's InciWeb website shows.

The fire, which is in the Fremont-Winema National Forest in the southwest of the state, broke out July 6 and "continues to burn actively," according to Sunday's update.

Officials expect the fire to be contained by July 27.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

According to a news release issued Saturday evening, conditions "were so extreme that firefighters needed to disengage and move to predetermined safety zones."

These things blow my mind. I pencil-whipped that growth as roughly 1 acre/second.
(143,000-38,000)divided by 86,400 seconds per day. An acre is somewhat larger than a football field.

Think about that - an average of more than a football field per second. We’re fuct.

That link doesn’t take me there.

Air Attack Pilot and ATGS (air tactical group supervisor) identified. I knew the ATGS, which makes it suck even more.
Pilot Matthew Miller, 48, and Air Tactical Group Supervisor Jeff Piechura, 62, were on board a Beechcraft King Air C-90 aircraft conducting visual reconnaissance and aviation command and control over the fire. Mr. Miller was a fire pilot with Falcon Executive Aviation, Inc. contracted by the U.S. Forest Service. Mr. Piechura was an employee with the Coronado National Forest. Their remains have been recovered from the accident site.

It’s been a bad year for wildfire aircraft…so far.
