    Lightbulb

Max is at school in Boulder. His family is from Slidell I believe, right in the crosshairs. I'll see if I can get in touch with him and ask him about the family.

Best wishes to them and everyone down there though.

I thought Phunk was from Slidell, learning how to be an automotive technician.

Wait, if Phunk is from Slidell and Max Gosey is from Slidell and Max Gosey is actually Blurred, then that means Phunk and Blurred are from the same southern city. Hmmm... interesting!

Preciate the thoughts. And the hijack, but that's not the important part.

Here's the story: my parents went to Vicksburg with my sister and our 2 dogs today. (Vicksburg is in the northeast corner of the state). They left the 2 cats at home for whatever reason. My house is in the swamp and is relatively protected and is luckily 13 feet above sea level. The river shouldn't be a problem as far as flooding. There is an 8x12 ft (or so) window that is more than likely toast. I don't konw how much they boarded up. We are most concerned about trees falling on the house, so it is a little scary. I have no idea what's going to happen to my house, but at least my family is safe. Positive vibes are definitely requested for my cats. I've been gone like 2 weeks and miss them already. And if I never see them again, my parents are gonna hear a good bit about that...

    Thanks again, guys.

Best wishes to all the folks down there (and Max's cats). Take this time to refocus on what really matters in life. Call your family and friends to let them know how you feel. Put to rest old fueds and try to move forward. Events like this remind us how short life can be and what a small role we play on this earth. God bless. (and yes i've had a few beers)

As long as your family is safe Max... that's ALL that matters. The rest is replaceable (yes, even the cats. )

my neighboor/friend is stuck in Gulfport, visiting his family. Talked to him today, he put a good effort into trying to get the hell out of there, but with no luck. He is buckled down in a brick house about 1/4mile from the beach. So it should be an interesting night for him.

Good luck Max, hope all your loved ones, including cats get through safely.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

    Truly necessary?

Gulfport is roughly an hour east of Slidell. I hope that is far enough to make a difference. And I hope your friend is safe and that all turns out well...

I'd start running inland, seriously...with the strongest part of the storm and highest surge to the east of the center, this could be a bad decision, good effort of not. Hope he makes it.

Ok sorry for the melodrama with the cats. My friend who lives in my neighborhood apparently returned from Baton Rouge home today and had to swim to his house (which is on the bayou). Roughly 5 feet of water inside. I hear from another friend that roofs (rooves? dont I feel like a moron) are gone, many houses are leveled, the main drag is a friggin' disaster, and that my town on the northshore of lake Ponchartrain got it worse than New Orleans on the south shore did. In any case, let's hope all this is exaggeration and just pray for the best. Thanks for the support guys, but I'm probably not the one who needs it.

    glad you're safe Max..

Crinkle, I hope your buddy is OK? sounds like Biloxi/Gulfport got hit among the hardest with storm surge and the highest winds. I also heard an apartment building in the area may have claimed upwards of 30 lives..

    Well thanks for the thoughts.

Here is the lowdown on my situation: my friend who went to his house that was 5 feet underwater yesterday (Charles) ventured all the way to the back of the neighborhood today just to check on my shit. Cody accompanied him. They are THE SHIT. They reported miracles to us today: NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. NO WATER DAMAGE. NO WINDOWS BUSTED. There is a tree on my carport, which is relatively isolated from the rest of my house. My ski boat is "as if it hadn't been touched." Two of three cats were sighted and fed today. The other one is highly resilient and should be around somewhere.

My friend across the street sustained 6 inches of water in his house but again, from what i understand, structural damage is minimal. My neighbor's situation (next door neighbor) is unclear, but from what I hear, among these three houses, at least 5 significant trees were uprooted and snapped in half. Gusts up to 220 mph were recorded in Slidell, LA. How we all survived so well is surely a product of my fervent prayers and serious good luck. I thank God and thank all you guys for your support.

Unfortunately, the south side of town was not so lucky. Eden Isles--a subdivision on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain (which divides Slidell and the rest of the "northshore" from New Orleans) is devastatingly destroyed. Wiped out. Leveled. Much of the rest of the town is underwater. The bridge that links Eden Isles to the south shore of Lake Ponchartrain--the Twinspan--is missing several large chunks. A barge apparently ran into the "high-rise bridge" (roughly 80 ft. high, which crosses the Mississippi River). Electricity should be out for 2 months. The levee systems are extremely unstable, and the pumps failed, leaving a large percentage of New Orleans completely immersed in water. Basically, southeastern Louisiana is a third-world country, and somehow, my small nook of town survived miraculously.

This is the word of the Maxwell. Thank God the situation is as good as it is.

    Thanks for the report Max.

Glad the storm had mercy on your neighborhood.

Images on the news are unbelievable......
