Likewise if anyone is in need of a basic laptop - you could do a whole lot worse than the Acer Chromebook Plus for $299. Solid specs. Chromebooks aren't the underpowered pieces of shit you remember from 6 years ago. 256gb ssd, 8gb of RAM, can run android apps (and Linux), boots quick, touchscreen, and 10 years of guaranteed OS support.

95% of shit I do now is browser based. Been running one for 6mo now pretty happily. Configuring 3D printer slicers is the only thing that was a bit of a PITA.

I’m not far from this. My 2015 MacBook Pro has an expanding battery and is finally starting to slow down.
I never needed to “Pro” so going M3 Air and dropping to a 13”.

+1 for Chromebooks for personal computing… A “higher end” Chromebook can do anything a civilian wants to do, a lot cheaper than a Mac.

It’s off and I only charge it when I need to. But yes, time to retire it.

Hahaha mine is 2013 and works fine except apple has deprecated the model year so can’t update the OS anymore. No battery boner so far

Nah. Keep using it, but with a fire extinguisher nearby. And video monitoring. And extort Apple with the footage, or just go viral on social media.

So you honestly think a laptop that is off and has no power going to it will just spontaneously catch fire?

At my last company we had a number of drones in a storage room, sitting on shelves. They were powered off and not plugged in for charging. The battery in one spontaneously combusted and burned up everything sitting on that rack before the sprinkler system put out the fire and proceeded to flood most of the first floor of our building. Shit can happen with lithium batteries.

Had a MacBook with no hard drive in my closet for about 5-6 years. Opened the box and it had expanded to about the size of a baseball.

I sure as shit counted my blessings for it not combusting.

Don’t store lithium ion batteries in your closets.

Looks awesome, kinda spendy for what it is tho. Here, I’d worry about how to keep dust and spiders out.

I bought this, it just arrived yesterday (still need to fire it up). I don't have a computer, just a work laptop, so something that can do basic computing (surfing and an occasional simple word doc or spreadsheet) was something I needed. Thanks!

I bought one too. Finished migrating from my 2015 Mac last night. Found a Groupon for MS Office 2021 for $65. Bought one of these that shows up Sunday. https://a.co/d/gPPjHYc

These are not a bad deal, but there are so many shops sitting on dated inventory right now, that finding something at $3k that retailed higher shouldnt be a problem. Wife's Mother found a $5k specialized stumpy comp marked down to $2750 yesterday.

Tl;DR: good price, better options out there.

Do it. Went from a MacBook Pro to this Air with the M3 chip. Works great. Was on it for 6 hours straight yesterday and the battery only went down to 72%.
Light, nice keyboard and touch pad.
