the “cunning baffling powerful” drivel turns my stomach
I’m glad it works for some folks but it’s horseshit for me
you don’t need AA
you’re not powerless

I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
And yet thousands upon thousands of people have gotten and stayed sober BECAUSE of Bill W and the big book.
Not for you. Cool.
Honestly not totally for me either, although I appreciate the knowledge of it I've gained.
But if it works for some don't tell them they don't need it.
You don't need it. But some may, and more power to them if it works.
Come on Mikey. You know there's a lot of different kinds of AA. They're not all big book thumpers. But if they want to be and it keeps em sober more power to them.
Keep up the good fight everyone
I feel obligated to spread the word that AA is not for everyone
I feel obligated to warn people away from it
I feel obligated to help people find other resources

There are absolutely meetings I avoid like the plague.. There's one where they insist everyone participate in and end all prayers by saying "amen". That's a nope for a lot of people, There are atheist groups, LGBTQ groups, etc. here. Living in a small town/rural area the local meetings might all suck. I'm glad there are more options/resources here.
But ultimately, the main thing is hanging around other people who have found a way to stay sober.
A shitty meeting here and there is better than going to a bar.

Yep. Also if you make the program a good fit for you, you can tolerate others who may be off the rails w their strict/overly religious interpretation of it.
God to me is just everything around us. I'm huge into science astrophysics etc. That shit is mind blowing, incomprehensible and amazing. That'll do for God for me.
I'm also pantheist, God even exists and works via people who absolutely don't believe in anything supernatural at all. Supernatural is just science and physics we don't understand yet. But the entire system/universe is my higher power. And I believe it listens to us spiritually somehow.. just not how any single holy book tries to explain it.

So daughter has found her a new boyfriend at rehab. FML
In order to properly convert this thread to a polyasshat thread to more fully enrage the liberal left frequenting here...... (insert latest democratic blunder of your choice).
Ya that's a huge no no. No new relationships for the first 12 months. That said, I also totally blew that rule off. I had just started dating someone a few weeks before I went cold turkey and started hitting AA meetings. Moved in with her after a month sober. We've been married for 23 years this Saturday
It's no coincidence that my wedding anniversary is one year and week after my current sobriety date Hope it stays that way.
The first step is the only one people have to do perfectly every day. The rest are suggestions..

no
the huge no is not getting into a relationship with someone in your rehab when you’re still spun out
life happens - yours did
you can have new relationships while you’re first in sobriety
the thing is, when you’re first getting sober, ALL relationships are new - even the old ones - sometimes, especially the old ones
and what is a friendship, or a sponsorship?
it’s a relationship
and if you’re one day at a time you’re only one day away from not being sober - look to the future
you should nurture good relationships and run away from bad ones
it’s ok to find new people in sobriety and it’s good to move away from old people too

Curious Mikey are you a weed guy or completely sober, can't remember...
I do smoke weed for fun
and I use edibles for pain and sleep
I also micro-dose mushrooms for depression and anxiety - and once in a while I like to trip a little or a lot
I drink coffee most mornings but not all - I don’t like a hot cup of coffee after about 10am but I do like a creamy cold brew late in the day once in a while
I don’t smoke or chew or vape tobacco
I don’t drink
alcohol isn’t good for me

AA has as many successful programs as it has long term sober people. Weed's (or tobacco or etc) only a problem if you're cross addicted.. I definitely am. Wish I wasn't but no denying it.

weed doesn’t make me want to drink
beer makes me want to smoke way too much

alcohol isn’t good
as a long time beer drinker I’m now annoyed about how so much revolves around beer
I’m glad there are good NA beers and hop beverages - I like the taste of hops
but beer isn’t good for me

I’m able to smoke and not drink
I can’t drink and not smoke
I can’t drink and not drink
3 infinity beers
yeah - that’s it - that’s how it goes

I smoked weed before I drank. Was high from 17-22, started to make me paranoid. Kinda grew out of it. Then drank hard for 20 plus yrs.
yikes
no thanks

It was the cool snap and bubbly feeling I got not the hops that made drinking beer so damned heavenly. If no buzz arrives with it I'd rather drink a Pepsi or straight seltzer with a little lime. I was experimenting with different hop options and brewing my own beer at the end of it all fwiw..

328 days AF.
I remember posting in the first sobriety thread years ago when I was trying to stop drinking.
Obviously it didn't stick back then.
Reality was that I wasn't ready to quit yet.
Happy to see other maggots here living AF.
Best decision I have ever made for myself.
Reborn and offered a new life is how I feel right now.
The old addicted life was a death sentence.
Be the best version of yourselves 💯💪
