    Skiing at Snowbird Sept. 1?

I'm leaving for Boston on the 2nd, so I'm going to head up to Snowbird on the 1st to get a few last turns in. I assume that with the cool weather there's still a decent amount of snow accessible within a reasonable hike from the tram, but any recent first-hand accounts would be appreciated.

i think that is a negative, I haven't been up LCC for awhile, but BCC is pretty bleak.

Dunno about the 'Bird, but the backside of Timp off the Alpine Loop in American Fork Canyon is still holding some pretty big, skiiable patches of snow.

I'd like to get some turns in that area this weekend, lemme know if you're interested.

Some scenics from the area can be found here:

Hey boarderline, i'm supposed to be hiking to the summit of timp this monday with some non-skiing friends. I think they are taking the shortest route up (timponooke or some shit) are any of the skiable spots off this trail?

I don't know about that trail, but your best bet is on the north facing aspects. You can see the big snow patches from Highway 92 as you're driving up American Fork Canyon. It still looked good as of last weekend (was doing recon up there) and should still be good to go this weekend. Hopefully my foot will cooperate as well.

The Bird still has about 300? vertical feet of snow visible from the road. Perhaps a 15 minute hike from the tram. I don't know the names of the areas.

But for significant vert, go to timp.

Due to the fact that I'm leaving early in the morning on Friday the 2nd, I had hoped to make the trip to Snowbird a relatively quick one so I could pack when I got home. I assume the Timp area is going to take me longer to get to and involves a fair amount of hiking to access, no? Of course Snowbird probably isn't the most interesting place, but it seems like the easiest way to get a few last turns in. 300 vert is good enough for me.

    Thumbs up

BP- There's plenty. I just skied LC bowl this week. It looks like the middle/end of July for snowpack! It has seriously been 12 years since it looked like this. As I mentioned a few months ago, there will be no prob making turns all year on the old snow this year. As TH said, there's about 300 vert left in LC bowl. I made over 40 turns per run. I'd say that in Pipeline Bowl it's closer to 400 vert.
LC was still continuous skiing through the rocks, but looked like it wouldn't make it too many more days. In other words, you might have to take your skis off for a few feet if you ski LC Bowl, but if you have the time to hike over into Pipeline it's WIDE open and tons of snow. You won't have to take your skis off over there at all.
I'll have pics and further info/comparisons to other years up in a couple days.

I'm in like Flynn if anyone wants to meet up for some 'Birdy-bird summer turns. Haven't made turns since June - it's time.

Work prevents me from going on the 1st, but tomorrow (8-27) is looking good if anyone wants to meet up. I'll take my camera.
