Ski boots are made by injecting plastic into a mold. The molds are made of two pieces. The outer portion of the mold creates the part of the boot that we see from the outside. The inner part of the mold represents the foot or inner part of the boot. This inner part is referred to as the plug. With race-room boots, the plug is smaller than consumer level boots. This makes the interior space smaller, the shell material thicker, and the boot more responsive. As the inside of the boot is smaller, the liner of the boot has to be thinner. This thin liner allows the skiers foot to be very close to the boot shell. The thicker shell material allows the boot fitter to carve and sculpt the boot from the inside out to fit the individuals foot. These boots are colder than consumer boots because they fit so precisely, and because the liners are so thin.
This was my understanding. If I was incorrect in the statement the Pro Model is a Plug boot also that it is basically a detuned Racing boot then thank you for so delicately pointing that out to me. It’s always nice to learn something new; I was obviously misled as to what constitutes a plug boot? (Maybe) You spend allot more time around Skiing and skiing equipment so I would defer to you on such matters.
BTW your Display name (BakerBOY) is very telling.
Well, after wading through your ramble, not only do you know what a plug boot is, but you even answered your own question -- plug boots are much thicker since they aren't molded with the foot plug in them like consumer level boots. The Pro Model is a consumer level boot, readily available to the general public and identified on the Salomon website. They aren't "detuned" -- they are softer flexing, for different performance needs. They merely share a last with the Course "race boot" which nobody actually really races in.
Maybe you should go back to epicski and post some more non-sensical polls about sex on the slopes or "Could Alta survive without Snowbird?"
OOOOOOOHHHH, I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!
