When it came time to do a reception in SLC, he sent out a generic FB invite just a few weeks before, and we had already made plans that we couldn't move.

So - do I get him a wedding gift?
If you want to, if you're feeling like you want to give him something to celebrate his marriage, then sure. But if you are asking whether you have some obligation to, or whether you'd be a dick for not, absolutely not.

FWIW, I would not expect an "announcement" if you're not invited. That's like sending out something to people saying "we're getting married, but we don't like you enough to invite you".

I'm inclined to give a gift as a "thank you" for not being invited to any more weddings. Especially a destination wedding.

No. You're being invited to a party, not a wedding. If you want to bring alcohol fine but I'm guessing he'll have plenty already.

Yep. Of course the point of destination weddings is so you can invite people and get a gift with little expectation that they'll come. In America today it seems like most weddings are "destination" weddings, given how scattered so many of our families and friends are.
When we got married in Tucson 38 years ago my mother insisted we send invites to all the second cousins, great aunts and uncles, etc in Detroit. Lots of gifts, none of them showed--although most of my aunts and uncles and first cousins did.

My kid got married a couple of weeks after the engagement so his wife in osteopath school could get his GI benefits. Married on the deck in a blizzard with my wife and I and the bride's mother who was the officiant. They plan a big party someday--probably will never happen. Maybe in Vegas where he's stationed. The other kid got married last weekend at a venue an hour north of Truckee. Given plague, fire, airline fuckups and the rental car situation amazing that 60 people actually managed to show up. Along with way too much alcohol, the overage of which my wife and I have promised to different people, which is awkward. The smoke cleared for the actual wedding and reception which was nice. The officiant/best friend: "By the power vested in me by getordained.com I now pronounce you married."

Tell him you'll break trail for X hours on your next tour or belay his ass for Y burns on his proj. FB invitation should be an automatic disqualifier for any gift. FFS, it's a wedding reception, if he cares so little that he can't personalize an invite he shouldn't expect much more than your presence, and even that is a bit of a stretch.

eh, the point of my destination wedding was to get married in a super awesome place, with as many of my friends and family that were willing to make the trip. Probably 1/5th of the invites came.

It certainly wasn't an attempt at getting more gifts, most of the people that didn't come didn't give a gift.

They're all bad. I has something shipped to me USPS from TX on Aug 11, the tracking says its been delayed and shows it's been in Detroit for a week now. Someone needs to check under the conveyor belt.

I still have Christmas presents that are showing as "not yet out for delivery" from two Etsy vendors that dropped them off at the USPS depot in early December.

They shipped replacements which arrived in late January.

If they ever arrive I've got some Land Rover swag for someone if they want it.

    Road construction mags:

Sometimes something gets dug up and sits there dug up, not being worked on, for ages before they finish the work.
I figured there must be a reason, but I don’t know enough to know why. Is there a typical or common reason for that, or is it just clusterfuckery?

Yeah, they all have their moments but for both consistently bad delivery times, general fuck ups, and an utter lack of regard for actually delivering packages (see the wall of paper above), FedEx is the clear winner IMO.

    No way.

OnTrac is by far the worst shipping company IMO.

Not sure of the shipper, but wife ordered 2 couches off the internet on the 15th. They were delivered today to the garage. No damage, packaging clean and in good shape. No idea where it originated, but delivery to Missoula. I'm impressed.

Don't get me started on why we needed two couches. That goes in the JHC thread.

Two couches is a great idea actually. I think she's a smart woman. At my house it's first come and fights ensue.

Who wants to walk across the Mackinac Bridge?

Seriously, who? At least one Yugo blows off that thing into the icy depths each year, right?

If you're so inclined. You can do so next week.

The fact that Teej and Dex are delivering this message makes it that much better.

Yup, I am not sure what happened with the shipment of dog kibble from Chewy, but it has been 7 days since shipped and I am out. Normally is a 2 day turn time. I hope it really shows up in a few hours, as I don't want to have to drive out to the vet to get a little bag.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

My son says that the people who come to a wedding are much more important than the place. I agree with him. Obviously you don't.

Budget Rental Car is trying to charge us over $500 for a crack in a windshield. I need to tweet my dissatisfaction. How do I do that? Do I just go to my page and use the @ symbol? Like "@Budget you guys are fucking scam artists trying to charge me for a goddam cracked windshield that expanded from a tiny crack to a big one while I had the car, and you cannot prove differently!" Like that? Or do I go to their page and post there? I understand FB but not the twitters.
