The rental agency was likely supposed to send me the ticket but didn’t.

Just don’t want any credit issues mainly, fuck If I care about a Florida rental car.

If the ticket is true you’d think the rental car company would have charged your credit card. Exceedingly difficult to rent a car with out a card. On our honeymoon in NZ the guy told us he’d be keeping our card number to pay the inevitable ticket. Sure enough rolling into a town I saw the camera flash. Couple of months later, charge on the credit card. Send a letter demanding proof.

Obviously rental car company never told me, I don’t even know if I did it but who knows.

I would of just paid it if I knew.

Do I have any options here or do I have to suck it up and pay it?

Going to a wedding in NYS (upstate?) in July. We will be in Burlington VT area before the wedding. Everyone attending must have proof of vax or proof of negative test within 3 days. My daughter isn't vaccinated, obviously, and I've never done any testing anywhere.

Where can I go in the Burlington VT area for rapid testing? And more importantly, I guess, how rapidly do you get the results?
Don't know specifically about VT and Burlington, but most drug stores and walk in Doc In A Box clinics are doing testing. Rapid test is harder to find and around here is usually used for medical facilities (Nursing Homes, Rehab Clinics, that type of stuff that have a lab and medical personnel that can do the testing and results on site and faster turn around. I did a rapid test and they did not require the swab to be pushed up into the nose as far as some that send the traditional test out to a regional lab...)

I replaced the DSL filters inside the house, and the static on the line is much much better. So that was at least part of the problem, if not all.

Mom's phone bill from AT&T shows she's paying for "WirePro", which Google says includes inside line repairs. Called AT&T and went through computer assistance, a tech is supposed to call me to schedule a visit.
You have to have or make a Butt Set then (which most do not have in their tool kits.) But send a picture of the box as it could have a spot that you do not know how it works. To make your own butt set, you need 2 alligator clips, some RJ11 phone wire that you will cut off an end and strip back the silver satin insulation and attach the clips too. Then you plug the standard telephone in and clip onto the posts or wiring in the box for the tip and ring.

But if the Wirepro is being paid for and includes inside wiring then yes just get a AT&T phone repair tech out and have them do their testing and try the DSL. They should have meters to test the DSL high side of the line also as well as hopefully clear up the static and noise issues.

What’s the worst that can happen? I can’t rent a car in Florida?

Chances are I did it but oh well.

If you fail to pay a parking ticket what happens?

The law they cite does allow the courts in FL to farm out collections to private attorneys. You might give the court a call and see if there really is charge against you. It does seem odd that the rental agency wouldn't pay the fine and charge your card. Maybe they didn't have your CC number any more when contacted by the court so just gave them your name and address.

If the charge is legit they should be able to tell you if the fine was farmed out to the lawyers who contacted you. The other possibility might be that the lawyers just went through a bunch of old court records looking for delinquent fines and is doing this on their own with no intention of turning the money over to the country. If it is legit I would pay the court directly if possible, rather than through the lawyers.

You might also want to confirm that they have the right guy--that the violation occurred when you rented the car in florida, if you can. Also go back through your old credit card charges and see if the rental company did in fact pay the fine and charge you and the county never recorded it as paid.

Might be worth writing the lawyers back, tell them the charge is in dispute, please confirm the date and time of the violation. Tell them you never received a citation--please send you a copy.

Thanks OG. I think I’ll contact the court directly.

Hard to justify paying a ticket I never received.

You're welcome. I'll be sending you my bill. If you don't pay I'm sending it to collections.

We got 3 in Italy. Speed cameras*. The GPS warned us, too, but my wife refused to take it seriously. And one for driving somewhere in a closed-to-nonresidents area somewhere in the Val d'Aosta--at least that's what we think it was for. The ticket was in Italian. We had no trouble paying though. The rental car company saw to that.

*If you're an American tourist driving in Italy and you notice you're going faster than everyone else there's probably a good reason they're going slower.

I've left already - didn't photograph the phone box. But the WirePro service should cover it, if there is more to repair. I haven't heard from AT&T yet, but it's all been over the holiday weekend, so no surprise there.

Thanks for the detailed input though. This might come in handy if I have to try to diagnose it sometime in the future.

Put in another service call to AT&T and request them to install
a new box with a 'customer interface' and a 'whole house' DSL
    filter there.
Depending on how much and many wireruns in the house this could
also improve the DSL service speed.

Can anyone recommend a dual-hose portable a/c for a small room, around 200 square feet? Seems all the dual hose units I can find are for much bigger rooms, and I'm trying to avoid the single hose units because I understand they're cartoonishly inefficient.

Update: AT&T repair man called today from Mom's house, he found a wire in the phone box that was connecting to something it shouldn't have been (he was a little difficult to understand, so I'm not sure exactly what the issue was) - he disconnected mystery wire and had me call Mom's land line. Phone call was crystal clear.

    Problem solved!

The call quality will go to shit tomorrow when they fire that repair man and hook the wiretap back up.

Do we still have to write NSFW if everyone is going to be working from home for the rest of time? I guess some people have their wife and kids at home.

What's the word for the fallacy of falling in love with the ideas you think you own? Descriptions in these lists never seem to address it directly:

Why do motorcyclists often ride right next to the center line rather than in the middle of the lane?
