Nope, W2. Regarding the going to Yurp in the Fall question. Looks like Delta is fucking that idea up. Hopefully by Spring 2022.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

How long does swelling from yellow jacket stings last and should I seek medical attention?

Inadvertantly disturbed a nest yesterday and a handful of the buggers got me.

Family history of anaphylaxis but nothing particularly serious personally before. But almost 24hrs out my leg and forearm around sting sites are massively swollen up, red and noticeably warm to touch and possibly worsening. Was itchy all over for couple of hours after but no rash or hives.
No swelling around face or neck, no breathing issues, no nausea which seem to be signs of severe anaphylaxis - if I had any of those I'd be at the medical clinic not posting in TGR. Been popping antihistamines - anything else I should do or should I escalate?

Watchful waiting would be the ticket imo. If you were going to have an anaphylactic reaction I'm fairly sure you'd have already had it.

But I'm not even a dentist, and definitely not a doctor.

Have you been stung before? Previous reaction?
If you were going to have an anaphylactic reaction to the sting it would have happened by now.
You should heal up fine in a day or two but I'd be concerned about the possibility that you could be allergic. A first exposure often produces a mild reaction, but each subsequent sting can produce worse and worse.
You might want to discuss with your doc or get referred to an allergist to see if this was a warning of an allergy or just a normal response to multiple stings. If you were going to have an anaphylactic reaction to the
It's the itching all over that concerns me.
Don't overdue the anthistamines, just what it says on the package.

Dentists should know all about anaphylaxis. I hope.

The swelling usually goes down in a day or two, but can last longer. I’ve also had the sting site harden and itch for a week or more.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

without an immediate (20 min?) systemic reaction I think you are ok with this round, but as mentioned I'd be concerned about the next one. If you don't get an EPI pen I would at least travel with some antihistamines always available. I have had a bad allergic reaction in the past but since have been able to control it with benadryl and not needed the jab.

    Thanks all.
Yes taking generic benedryl (diphenhydramine) per the label.
Reassured for now that this episode is uncomfortable but not life threatening.
I have been stung before and am accustomed to site swelling - the slightly troubling bit this time around is the swelling spread i.e. sting just above knee and my entire leg from mid thigh down to below calf is puffed.
I guess I'll wait this one out and follow up to see how concerned i should be about increasing sensitivity and greater concern for future incidents.

Sounds good, best of luck. My 1 anaphylaxis scare was when I was maybe 17? Upset to begin with that mom had me trimming hedges and got three (hornet?) stings on an elbow. Immediately full on teenager pissed, quit the trimming and wanted to drive off and see my friends (get stoned). Mom made me wait and thank God she did, b/c 15 min later my throat was swelling and I struggled to breathe. Quick trip to the ER where I had to be wheeled in with a chair and immediately put on IV.

39 now, carried an epi pen for a long time but they expire and need to be replaced every few years or so. I quit getting them in my late 20s and have been stung twice since. Definitely experienced allergic reactions, but quick benadryl intake controlled them. The attackers were likely different species than the original, and I think that makes a bit of difference.

I'll let others chime in about the details, and I may be wrong.. but my understanding is that the EPI (adrenaline) just opens things back up long enough to keep you breathing and get the antihistamine in, and that's the real fix.

Maybe I'm wrong. Don't die. Talk to your Dr.

That’s what I was referring to. Pretty typical for me with stings below the waist, though it mostly seems to pool around my ankles (or hands/wrist if I get stung in that region). Maybe I need to get that checked out.

So basically you’re paying $16k a year before your insurance kicks in. Can’t you move back to Canada?

That you've been stung before makes me worry less than if this was your first sting. Still worth discussing with your doc.

Benadryl alone will not adequately treat anaphylaxis although it's certainly important. Oral antihistamines won't do much for a severe reaction if you can't swallow it and it takes time to act. The epi is crucial but is short acting and may need to be repeated.
A 13 year old girl died of peanut allergy at Camp Sacramento despite 3 epi injections--by her MD father. Food and sting allergies are not to be taken lightly.

Now you've gone and done it. Mrs L2S doesn't want to winter in the Great White North

For 16k you could take a really nice extended winter holiday to a number of island locations.

Because it's driving me a little batty I'm trying to understand this weather -not climate- pattern, like what the jet stream is doing and el/la nino/a. ocean oscillation etc. as it affects medium- to longer term weather, say a week to a month. Basically I'm trying to figure out why this summer sucks so hard.

I know, climate change. But right now I'm more interested in the weather. I can't really find shit through NOAA, Windy, etc. etc. Is there a site that offers this type of analysis, either as predictions and analysis or even in forum format?

    Raytheon bought the weather channel
Weather channel bought underground weather, which used to be the best. Now it sucks.

My take is weather warfare. As the planet is getting more fucked, the sociopathic superpowers are steering jet streams and seeding clouds. Tinfoil? Perhaps. But I’m old enough to remember different.
And weather control is easy with modern science.

Oh it gets asked pretty often on the time scale. That's why I'd expect it to come up sooner among the random questions.

You would think yeah now we can steer hurricanes away from cities.
But then you got the ruskies and chicoms pushing the other direction.
