2020/21 Frozen Fish Squeezing Extravaganza

Post up your pictures and stories of frozen fish, shanties, tip ups and frozen lakes. Fabulous prizes will be awarded with extra points for images of: frostbite, vehicles plunged through ice, dogs & frozen fish, most fish in a day and biggest fish. Spilling a gin and tonic while fighting a dorado off Bimini in December is not ice fishing even if you had to wear a windbreaker.

Not this season and no pictures unfortunately, but I accompanied one of my grandfathers on a successful northern pike spearing trip on a frozen lake. A large rectangle was cut in thick lake ice, a shanty was dragged over it that had a decent sized opening in the floor, a few yellow perch decoys were hung under the shanty and when pike came by grandpa would shove a spear at them. We got three pike and they all seemed huge to me.

Yesterday ice fishing stoke, next door neighbor caught a nice walleye.

^^ that is probably true. I have only fished it in the summer and it is full of small rainbows, 10-12 inchers. Those signs about thin ice are for Texans staying at the Lake Condo’s. I have seen a full grown bull moose out there and he did not break through.

I have seen a few vehicles through the ice and never one with Texas plates. Yes, I am trolling those stuck in ice fishing meccas with a seasonal fishing contest that Skifishbum will have trouble winning. The prizes selected for this event are fabulous.

The 2020 Frozen Fish Champion Squeezers have been selected: Harry gets first prize which is eight (8) pint cans of Kettle House Coffee Cold Smoke and Bob McC gets honorable mention which is an adjustable sash that states "I am a hudge ice fisherman". All prizes collectable in MT.

The second half of the ice fishing season is still wide open.

Mrs Snapt and the Setterdog really dig the hardwater. Good high pressure, shitty skiing, freezer filling fun. We've had a pretty darn good season so far.

Snapt has set the bar high for the second half of the hardwater season. A nice shot of an F-150 poking through the ice could still make this a competition.
