The CA Waldorf people (ime* neither soccermoms nor hippies, even if they crunch) have long driven antivax stuff but the torch has been taken since covid for being against every vax along partisan lines.

*not soccermoms because they didn’t let the kids do competitive sports, not hippies because they made too much money.

Do we need a Measles thread? With RFK in charge, maybe we need an infectious disease forum.

Gaines County is the epicenter of the measles outbreak with at least 45 confirmed cases. The county had the highest unvaccinated rate in the state this school year at 18 percent, according to state health data.

As of Friday, the confirmed number of measles cases in Texas reached 90, making this the worst measles outbreak in 30 years.

Measles was declared eradicated in the United States in 2000. This was achieved through a successful vaccination program that ensured high levels of immunity in the population.

Vitamin A supplements might be a good idea if you live somewhere like a third world country and you have Vitamin A deficiency. But otherwise it’s the standard paleo hoax bullshit. More is not better.

Read an article in one of the paywalled sites the other day--lots of people who have had covid WITHOUT any apparent long term symptoms have significant cognitive loss. That would explain a lot. It could explain Biden, it could explain Trump. It could explain my wife. It could explain me. Looking around me with that in mind I see a whole lot of craziness it could explain. Not that most people weren't crazy before but there is definitely a different vibe in the society now. A lot has been blamed on isolation, loss of learning for the kids, etc but maybe it's not just psychosocial, maybe it's virus in the brain, which is better than a worm in your brain but bad enough. Like the PTSD in soldiers that turns out to be TBI in many cases. It could explain the last election.

FDA’s Peter Marks Steps Down, Warns of ‘Lies’ & 'Misinformation'
    Writer: Param Malik

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A seismic shift has rocked the FDA as Peter Marks, the agency's influential director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), has announced his resignation, effective April 5th, 2025.

“It has become clear that truth and transparency are not desired by the secretary [RFK Jr.], but rather he wishes subservient confirmation of his misinformation and lies,” Marks wrote in a letter to acting FDA Commissioner Sara Brenner, a copy of which was obtained by HealthcareInsights.

The abrupt departure of Marks, an individual widely regarded as the driving force behind the FDA's progressive approach to gene and cell therapies, has sent shockwaves through the biotech sector and is raising critical questions about the future of regulatory oversight in United States healthcare.

According to his letter, Marks' exit is not merely a personal decision. He used the occasion to decry the "unprecedented assault on scientific truth" that he felt was impacting public health and was a battle he waged daily against a relentless tide of misinformation from the new DHSS leadership.

Marks, who has led CBER since 2016, has been instrumental in shaping the regulatory landscape for groundbreaking therapies, balancing scientific innovation with patient safety. For over eight years, Marks stood as a bulwark against the rising tide of skepticism, steering CBER through unprecedented medical advancement and public health crises.

Under his leadership, the FDA greenlit landmark gene therapies, marking tangible progress in treating previously intractable diseases. This includes approvals like Yescarta and Luxturna, pioneering treatments for certain cancers and inherited blindness. Marks also spearheaded CBER's efforts to streamline the development of COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, playing a crucial role in Operation Warp Speed.

His departure will leave both of the FDA’s principal drug review offices without a permanent leader, following the resignation of Patrizia Cavazzoni, former Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation & Research (CDER), in January.

The implications of Marks' departure are far-reaching, as the FDA grapples with the increasing strain of federal staffing and budget cuts. These constraints have already stretched agency resources, and the loss of a key leader like Marks further exacerbates the challenge of maintaining regulatory efficiency and expertise.

And the departure of such a prominent figure, a figure who stood at the very nexus of scientific rigor and public trust, raises chilling questions about the effect of our current political climate on the very institutions designed to protect us. It’s a reminder that the institutions designed to safeguard public health are increasingly vulnerable to the corrosive influence of political opportunism. The loss of his expertise, a voice of reason in a cacophony of doubt, leaves a void that threatens to undermine the FDA's ability to fulfill its core mission: to protect and promote public health.

The search for Marks' successor becomes a litmus test for the nation's commitment to scientific integrity. In a moment where the very foundations of trust are under siege, the FDA must not only fill a vacancy but also reaffirm its commitment to evidence-based decision-making.

The agency's ability to maintain public trust in vaccine safety and efficacy is now front and center. With Mark's departure, a critical voice has been silenced. As the FDA searches for a successor, American health and science stand at a precipice.

So an uncle of mine, MAGAtard, of course never got a covid vax because of the conspiracy theories. Ends up being gets Deep Vein Thrombosis in leg and Pulmonary Embolism. Dies at the local clinic, brought back via CPR, and saved via emergency surgery. But he still has a “bunch” of clots in his lungs.Guy was healthy, good weight, and active. Don’t know for certain Covid related but his kids are keeping up a wall of low information. “Just old”

og: The antivaxxers are claiming all DVT/PE deaths are caused by "the clot shot."

In other news, RFK and his hand picked appointees bypass ACIP, the professional advisory group that is responsible for CDC vaccine recommendations, and simply declares no COVID vaccines for pregnant women and kids. ACIP is the authority that is respected. They were to meet in June so RFK just unilaterally decided, usurped, and blew his load.

This is a bad decision and a bad precedent.

American college of obstetricians and gynecologists responds
ACOG Statement on HHS Recommendations Regarding the COVID Vaccine During Pregnancy

The following is a statement from Steven J. Fleischman, MD, FACOG, president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG):

“ACOG is concerned about and extremely disappointed by the announcement that HHS will no longer recommend COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy. As ob-gyns who treat patients every day, we have seen firsthand how dangerous COVID-19 infection can be during pregnancy and for newborns who depend on maternal antibodies from the vaccine for protection. We also understand that despite the change in recommendations from HHS, the science has not changed. It is very clear that COVID-19 infection during pregnancy can be catastrophic and lead to major disability, and it can cause devastating consequences for families. The COVID-19 vaccine is safe during pregnancy, and vaccination can protect our patients and their infants after birth.

“In fact, growing evidence shows just how much vaccination during pregnancy protects the infant after birth, with the vast majority of hospitalized infants less than six months of age—those who are not yet eligible for vaccination—born to unvaccinated mothers.

“Following this announcement, we are worried about our patients in the future, who may be less likely to choose vaccination during pregnancy despite the clear and definitive evidence demonstrating its benefit. We are concerned about access implications and what this recommendation will mean for insurance coverage of the COVID-19 vaccine for those who do choose to get vaccinated during pregnancy. And as ob-gyns, we are very concerned about the potential deterioration of vaccine confidence in the future.”

New COVID vaccine recommendations threaten access, undermine choice and will negatively impact health
    May 27, 2025

Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s announcement that COVID-19 vaccines will no longer be recommended for healthy children and pregnant women does the opposite of what Americans have been asking for when it comes to their health — it takes away choices and will negatively impact them. Many health insurers rely on federal recommendations to determine coverage, and this decision could make it significantly harder for millions of Americans to access vaccines they want for themselves and their families. This change is particularly troubling because pregnancy is a well-established risk factor for severe COVID-19 complications, including preterm labor and birth, preeclampsia, heart injury, blood clots, hypertension and kidney damage. Infants and children may also develop severe disease and may suffer from prolonged symptoms due to long COVID, which can negatively impact their development.

This decision bypassed longstanding processes through which the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the CDC — an external body of highly vetted experts — conducts a robust review of scientific evidence in open, public meetings to make vaccine recommendations for people of all ages. It is concerning that such a significant policy change was made unilaterally outside an open, evidence-based process with no regard for the negative impact this will have on millions of Americans.

IDSA strongly urges insurers to maintain coverage for COVID-19 vaccines so that all Americans can make the best decisions to protect themselves and their families against severe illness, hospitalization and death. IDSA also urges Congress to conduct meaningful and necessary oversight to ensure appropriate decision-making processes at the Department of Health and Human Services, which will impact people of all ages.

How so? I had understood there was a significant increase in odds of DVT and PE after Covid
