Every hard core skier should visit Gastein in Austria someday, the place has a rich old film of skibum and tradition around it.
It's on a train line that can be part of a killer trip through the Alps down to the Dolomites: hit Bad Gastein (have a drink at the Hexenhausl), train to Mallnitz, do the day trip from Moeltaller Glacier back to Sport Gastien, then train down to Inichen, then taxi to Cortina.

One day, I'll write down the routes I know. It's really nuts how easy it is to train it through the Alps and ski.
Here's Mallnitz, right off the train after it goes through a tunnel from the North, starting in Gasteinertal:



After skiing there a day, take a taxi to Moetaller Gletscher and ski the 5000+ vertical feet back to Gasteinertal

Have a relative who is in her 90’s at this point. She is German and has always had a certain joie de vivre but part of that includes a really acerbic wit and an affinity for terrorizing children.

She has the time of her life telling little kids about Krampus to fully chilling effect. It’s pretty fun to witness. Only a true German can pull that off.

I lived in a small town in Bavaria for a few years. Krampus is legit! Multiple Krampus' were running around, scaring the kids, all hopped up on suds. My boys ages 8&9 were shitting their pants. Need to bring this tradition across the pond.
