welp, leave it to beech to fuck up a powder day. groomed everything except white lightning, where they blew all night to the tune of 2 inches of manmade landmine crust on top of the fresh. and naturally, guns are firing full bore this morning. found some softness and viz behind the guns and into the trees but called it when the lift line formed in earnest after third run. very not sick.

but oz is open, so there is that.

Went up to Catalooche Sat AM with some friends who've never skied before. Lines were terrible. I knew that the weekend would be busy, but was totally caught off guard by how busy it was. Snow was skiing well Sat afternoon and Sunday it was really fun. Snowing pretty well for a bit. Lines were a bit more manageable.
My groms had a lot of fun. My oldest skied with his friends who was their first time, instead of us. Which surprised me because he gets so cranky waiting for his sisters who can ski, much less kids who've never ridden a chair. Overall, was a fun trip with friends skiing, not a ski trip. Pretty great to be able to weekend warrior it pretty peacefully from Atlanta area.
I will say, it was an exercise in patience as I watched maybe 1 out of every 6 chairs loaded at capacity. On several occasions, an boss figure would come tell the ticket scanner to go take some laps, leaving what little structure there to be thrown to the wayside. Made no sense on what we were told by staff was one of their busiest days of all time! Everyone working at the mountain was super kind, and I am grateful theyre doing what they do. It was clear they were overwhelemes
tit is also scary as hell to be around so many folks learning to ski/ride.
Was also a reminder of what WNC has to work with, as Ski Patrol was working with Jr Ski Patrol and it looked more like a ski school lesson than training.
Anyways, muddy boots and skis for the win!
Apparently.new Orleans is getting 3-5". Break out the xc skis
Gulf Shores, Alabama, elevation about 10 feet. I only have a flip phone so my first descent on the backfill hill to the bridge is unrecorded but here's my groms enjoying it. We've got 6"+ but almost no topography lol.
Sorry for the image issue I forgot this site is run by 2 hamsters powering an old Mac SE...

That's wild! From big surf swells during Helene (IIRC) to this, wild 6 months for GS/OB weather. Weve been going to GS every year since 2010 for work and play. Like it down there, in LA.
Drove 25 minutes over to Florida yesterday morning and skiied the backfill underside of a bridge to be able to say I've skied Florida. The southeast side was completely melted but the NW Face...was holding just enough snow! First run ended in briars that tangled me up and set me on my ass. Second run I hit the straightline through the sick "chute" between the briars and nailed it to my feet :P
