I would think with a mustache like that he told the cops to stick it where the sun don’t shine and they just left, not much they can do.

Our Beetlejuice-lookalike neighbor moved out of his house a couple weeks ago after his wife got a restraining order against him. Also included in the order are his son and daughter in law who have been living in a trailer in the driveway for a year.

Apparently they were fighting in the driveway, something they do often to avoid exposing the kids to their shenanigans (youngest kid is 17 and has probably seen her fair share of shit from her parents but still, nice touch). One of the new neighbors called it in, apparently it was getting physical. I did call the cops during one of their fights last year as they were screaming at the top of their lungs, banging around on stuff (cars, trashcans), and I thought he was going to hit her. I walked over to tell them to STFU and get their shit in order before the cops got there, probably not the best course of action in hindsight.
The lady of the house came over yesterday to thank us for saving her, had to explain it wasn't us this time as we were out of town during the incident. Pretty good guess on her part considering the history...

Apparently dad and his son + DIL were in the process of taking over the finances of the family to screw her out of everything. They were stealing her cash, had canceled her credit cards, the kid actually took her leased car back to the dealership and killed the lease on it. We chatted for a while, the poor woman is crushed. Now we have to be on the lookout for him as she thinks he's going to sneak back in the house to take more stuff or try to convince their daughter to tell the cops her mom is lying. Sordid story.

My next door neighbor died two years ago and the house has been empty since.

    Best neighbor I've ever had.

I'd enjoy seeing them battle the 5 raccoons I've seen skitter down the chimney.

It would be nice to get away from the family for a few years yet be close enough to visit easily when needed.

But I wouldn't enjoy battling the 5 raccoons I've seen skitter down the chimney.

I'd trade a few of the yahoos living around us for one of these large-eared critters!

Soooo. We've lived in our East Bench Sandy house for the last 17 years. Our house faces north, and the only view we have of the Wasatch is out our kitchen window. The neighbor directly across the street keeps her homestead clean and tidy as do most of the folks in the neighborhood. However, we have one neighbor who just happens to be in the periphery of my above mentioned view who's aesthetics are... challenging. The neighborhood calls him "The Farmer." We call him "Sanford and Son." The front yard is a compendium of layers of leftover inflatables from seasons and years past. (I wonder what this years AT-AT Rudolph might look like flaccid.) There's also an derelict early 80's Power Wagon, late 2000's Park Avenue, and recently, an YJ with a blue tarp soft top of unknown provenance. The driveway also includes piles of rusted tools, mostly of AutoZone quality, several AliExpress "vehicles," bags of fertilizer, soil, shit, and other assorted trash. They like to keep their spare ladders, tables and chairs leaned up against the front and side of the house. I've spoken to the code enforcement officer assigned to my area several times over the last few years without avail. The Jeep however opens a new door. Because it's been parked in the street through the last 3 snowstorms, it's technically illegally parked. If I report the Jeep, it gets the police involved instead of city's code enforcement officer. Accountability escalates. Other then dead center in the front yard, he has nowhere to move the Jeep. I'm torn because the Jeep clearly belongs to his teenage son. I don't want to fuck the kid over because his dad is a piece of shit, but this just happens to be the first time I can get the cops involved. WWYD?

Never call the cops for anything. Let alone this. What are they actually doing wrong other than hurting your keen sense of aesthetics?

best neighbors I ever had were octogenarian newlyweds from Texas. They couldn't hear my dog barking and they left between Nov and May so I could use their driveway during those months too.
They had a No-bama bumpersticker on their car but I would still take them back any day

I'd start by talking to the kid owner of the jeep and tell him that his car is illegally parked and sooner or later he's going to start getting tickets/towed. Then I would tell him that he can talk to his parents and let them know that I'd be happy to help them tidy up and organize their place a little bit so there's room to park that jeep somewhere, or that him and I could just do it together one day (probably multiple days by the looks of it).

If they're dicks about it, then yeah call the cops because having to look at an illegally parked POS on the road every day with a fucking tarpaulin on it is bonkers. But if something is bothering you, you can't just complain you need to also provide solutions and be willing to work towards them yourself. Not your responsibility, but that's just the way she goes as I'm sure you already know.

"Aesthetics"?!?! Fuck that, don't call the cops. You deal with that shit. Those are the best damn neighbors to have. Keeps the riffraff out. Keeps property values down.

Run them out of the neighborhood and you'll have some dickbag move in complaining about how you didn't cut your grass this week.

You want an HOA? Move to a neighborhood where you can complain to the HOA.

Seriously? I’m pretty fucking live and let live but that kind of place affects the whole neighborhood. Property values, vermin, and yeah aesthetics. You want to live like the Clampets? That’s fine, do it somewhere where it isn’t prohibited by ordinance. Pretty sure that area isn’t zoned to allow junkyards.

If there’s an actual health or safety or animal issue, then call the appropriate people for that. But don’t call the cops (who can use deadly force on a whim) just cause you don’t like it. That’s all I’m saying.
