Very interesting data, but doesn't it likely support the view, particularly this year with way way less out of state travel than normal, that a sizable if not majority of IKON pass skiiers are likely SLC locals who either grabbed an IKON instead of a Bird pass or probably even more who used to grab local discount tickets or walk up day tickets and got an IKON instead?
Anecdotally, i remember the powder weekends walking to the lift on avg it was 1/4 plates were out of state or rentals.
Im fairly certain that the cottonwoods ikon redemption rate is quite a bit higher than other resorts (i'm guessing double). I'm just hoping last weekend was a preview of what spring skiing will be like in LCC the rest of the year, small lines and good vibes all around.
On Powder days and/or holiday weekends, Wildcat lot is still 1/4+ out of state, if not more...

Nearly everyone I talk to at the bird is from out of state. Traveled here because we are “open” compared to a lot of other places. All say things like “I have an ikon pass, best thing that ever happened!”
On ikon blackout powder day it’s basically walk on, flanking weekends an hour wait. So, yeah, you’re totally right.

I rip the groomed on tele gear
WOW. This is an awesome spreadsheet. Slightly off-topic but amazing to see that President's weekend at the Bird this year had less than half the skiers as similar resorts in CO were experiencing during that time 15 years ago!Originally Posted by tbatt
Duffman, this is my hypothesis as well. I am open to the idea that mediocre skiing out of town strangers can just suddenly find great untracked lines in obscure places (that took my admittedly very slow and unintuitive dumb ass many seasons to find) on big days but it never seems to be the stereotypical "Ikon Beater" on the hike back to the lift in my experience.
if the license plate is new england: lives here
if the license plate is CO, CA, WA, OR, MT: visitor
that's how I play the game
I think a decent amount of those numbers are local ikon skiers redeeming their days but mostly ski solitude.
I saw a license plate from Hawaii one time and that freaked me out. I wonder how they drove that car across the Pacific Ocean. Did anyone ever think about that?! Buy a car like that and you could really take advantage of the ikon pass......
The skiing is still pretty good and I got to "getoutside" with the man himself today. Expected a dusting on crust and got a dusting on a spongey crust which was a nice surprise. Speaking of sponges, ya'll ever had sponge cake that shit is delicious! Almost as good as skiing 5" on a spongy crust, amiright?

HI plate usually means military. They get free transport from the islands.

Dust on sponge was indeed better than expected
For the Alta/Bird crew, does anyone have an instructor at either that they would recommend for a private for a 7 and a half year old boy, adv beginner level? My son really wants to get after it now and always wants to do the "bear trails" (lower angle trees) and has become pretty confident on blue trails, but wont listen to Dad about technique and spends too much time in a wedge and / or with too much weight and wrong edge angles on the inside ski. Want to find someone fun for him to work on this with. Any recs would be appreciated, either here or PM
Anybody got thoughts on eagle point? Been to brianhead but not eagle. Curious as they got some snow.

I need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....
Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues
