UPD admitting they f'ed up on Sunday with the whole BCC closure:

"The Unified Police Department announced on social media Tuesday that moving forward, accident vehicles that end up in Big Cottonwood or Little Cottonwood Canyons will remain there unless an active leak exists. This will allow traffic continue to flow up and down the canyon without disruption.

Salt Lake City Public Utilities said no contamination had been detected from either vehicle, leaving it a mystery as to why traffic was stopped to have them removed."

Wish some of that forecasted Tahoe snow would spill this way...

He smelled like bad weed and I almost joked that that was the problem, but realized that his alarm bells were going off and respected that. Piney rolls by and we discuss what to do...download? Didn't feel good about having Rob in the air so I toboggan him to Sugar base alone, transfer him via snowmobile to the clinic alone, no big deal. Five stints later...we were close after that.
I heard that story right form his mouth more than a few times. He was very thankful that day for you guys. You saved his life. Thanks "dad" lol

I'm pretty sure Robbie's dad had a big hand in inventing the EKG. Amazing how that led to extending his life another decade.

IIRC it actually was his mom who held a patent. I may be boogering it up, but I seem to think she was the one...definitely a medical field invention.

I still remember the first time I rolled up to the collins line right after interlodge lifted and saw gotamas with spademan bindings in pole position, my confusion was real. Time after time i'd walk up and there those skis and bindings would be (coming from the old snowpine so never had a shot a real first chair after interlodge) and after a while it came to be expected. You have to respect the dedication and consistency if nothing else.

We could really use Rob and a few of those old dudes to put some law enforcement back into the lift lines. Haven't been up in a few weeks but the images of the ski's down in line with no attendees for the chair is pretty egregious. I remember being called out by Rob once for putting my skis down and beginning to head back to GMD for a coffee. I stayed until another in our party could swap out. Skis hold the chair but only if one person is present for the chair.

Mom yes, and was given a medal by Obama to boot. Robbie was very involved in NORML.

With Hardcore and Robbie both gone I don't hold much hope for the way the "old guard" kept things in line.

Damn, how'd you avoid the wind? I guess I can stop skiing upper LCC now that there's a little more snow. Felt like winter in the sheep pen and the winds were whipping. seen a lot of sunrise photos on the gram from this morning, but here's my contribution.

and now that alta is run by the instagram influencer mob they seem to think it has "always been this way" with the leaving skis in the line and bouncing.

Rule's always been have at least someone from your group in line with the skis once you put them down, at least as long as I've been skiing alta. What do the older timers say (discounting the fact that 10 years ago you could roll into line at 9 and still be on the lift by like 920-925)

the "rules" were made up and belligerently enforced largely by the dead guys in order to maximize their chance at getting first chair.

considering their rules condoned saving spots in line for people that hadn't shown up yet, the guys who made the rules are dead, and most people have to go to their vehicles in order to warm up, maybe this season is good time to just go with the flow.

Agreed. At least one party member of the group must stay with skis. I've seen hardcore toss skis, least I think it was him. Rules are rules, even if the enforcers change. Sorry people aren't following

Edit: lonestar does have a point. Saving never bothered them. And it for sure maximized their chances though those guys always were there early. Lol

Yeah, I've long given up caring about being early or first. Going with the flow has been the name of the season for sure, and its all good with me, how does one go about changing unwritten rules that noone really knows anyways.

Enjoy what should be a deep February, I'm flying back east for the month to help with some family stuff, I'm sure you're going to get dumped on.

I always hated this practice of saving spots for people who aren't there yet... especially as a non regular who has gotten in line with a shot at a first 10 chair, only to see it slowly dissolve as the line in front of me bloated...

No shit. Weird rules. At Snowbasin your spot in line was saved when you were there standing in it.

So I have a different strategy. I try to not stand in line at all.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Wind is still fierce this morning. Mixed bag out there but the turns lower down made it worth it. No pics, was fighting off frost bitten fingers from the wind and viz was mostly non existent.
