    Awesome stuff.
I used to ski a lot with Brad Meiklejohn(former avalanche forecaster) when he lived in the forest service cabin in Millcreek. He called West Porter "old dependable" because it was a bitch to get out of and no one went there. The year Argenta slid, all of Millcreek slid, cleaning the shrubbery from a number of drainages. + shortest distance from the house with 4k vertical. + interesting snow because it's different than LCC and Bcc.

Saw Brad a year and a half ago down south.
Been wondering who wra is for a bit.

Slides ran on surface below the last 2 storms, may have stepped down on nw facing LSB. Ski conditions variable wind pack, crust and board.
Would expect future instability in the area to be from bonding or lack of new to old surface. Watch the clinkers!

WRA is BOB? Mind fucking blown. I was not joking. Holy shit. FKNA.

Speechless. You fucking wizard you. Ha.

I remember your super low res big beard pics from 15+ years ago and always thought to myself that you, sir, you understand things that I need to try to approach like a calculus curve, never reaching. You inspired me greatly, and I am very thankful.

I remember you getting up to do your reports, bitching about the shitty pay, and everything. It's all in my brain. Wow is right. Holy fuck. Long belated welcome to the next dying forum.

You fundamentally changed how I personally treat snow science. That is huge.

    Still rocking those Voile's?

Thought topic for the day (from an introverted old fuck) . How graphic do you have to get to get any attention in the new social media days? Body bag packing techniques with pictures?

But seriously, I'm a pretty quiet guy. I've meet a few mags in the last couple of week in less than ideal situations, and I hate social media, even thought it pays the bills.
But after this weekend, I feel like I need to scream from the rooftops about chilling the fuck out. How do I/my team do that?
Fuck, it was my sons birthday Sunday, and I was shoving 4 bodies in bags and throwing them in net. My daughter asked me what dead people looked like?

I really don't want attention (I would post anonymously...) , but I feel like I/my teammates stories could possibly saves lives?

We were watching people drop steep high north lines on Sunday from the helicopter. WTF?

And we're not a group of people that haven't sipped the sweet nectar of blower powder -- and we have been caught and released, we get it.....

I'm drunk and I'm going to bed....

You are a mag, it's okay to release. We all need that. It's not going to change. We got you.

Just kidding, I think it's weird that we don't have to or want to use our real names around here...
Look forward to seeing you sometime and keep up the good fight even if it seems like an uphill battle these days.

Thanks for what you do. Sorry man. The consequences of powder can be so damn high. I don't think people get that part until they live it.

Haha Jimmy you outed me too. But I don't care. Old Bob - he probably cares less than I do. Hopefully we bring some perspective and some good stories (you sure do!).

Thanks for what you do. I hope you and your team take care of yourselves and each other. Well that image certainly works for me! I don't know if I really believe it or if it has more to do with not having the energy to yell and scream anyone but here is now I do it these days.

Try to preach culture. Own the fact that the idea of authority figures doesn't really sell well in the backcountry. Hell, most of the forecasters, guides, instructors, sr. patrols, SAR leads and such are pretty anti-authoritarian themselves. It's part of who we are and why we do what we do.

So instead of standing up in a room, virtual sometime and, preaching the sermon, I try and empower people to think conservatively themselves and spread that message to people they care about. When it look like being told what to do, the message is limiting. When it looks like, it is what everyone should do for their own self interest, it gets more buy in.

The accidents and deaths aren't ever going to stop, I get that. But damn, this season is something else. Multiple close calls every day. And we're half way thru it.
It's supposed to snow Friday going into a 3 day weekend. This PWL is here to stay.

The accident on Saturday was really troubling because I think everyone in that party went there to be safe and make good choices.

I just hope all the events in the last week will get some peoples attention.

Cabin run is over 35 degrees and will avalanche. 4 in the party, one stepped of the crown as it released. (film scan from about 2002)
    Hey WRA:

There are a couple of pretty striking snapped trees in the flattish area at the bottom of the main Cabin Run pitch. Every time I see them my gut clenches up because like a lot of people I accept that Cabin Run is avalanche terrain but I haven't been there in conditions when it seemed like an avalanche was possible--i.e, when the snowpack in the starting zone of your pic was contiguous, as pictured.

Do you know when or approximately when those trees snapped, or when the last time was Cabin Run increased the trim line in its runout zone?

From todays Mt Washington NH Avi Forecast

"From January 30 to February 6, 15 avalanche fatalities occurred in the US along with many close calls. This was the deadliest week for avalanche fatalities in more than 100 years. The reason for the spike is unclear, but experts looking at this suggest a combination of factors that include a particularly dangerous snowpack across the US and the increased number of users. One important detail is that all of the victims were experienced backcountry users, not people venturing into avalanche terrain for the first time. Given the events this past week, consider taking a few minutes today to read about the accidents and reflect on your own decision making. If anything, we can all learn something which hopefully influences better outcomes in the future."
