I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

^ nice. skied that fun line last thursday but some sharks down low. hopefully this last storm kept you above them.

ran into a pair of skiers at the top. yesterday's sun effected the east facing and saw previous days cracking on the up. solid turns.

^ Yea man it was good, no sharks , but definitely some deft maneuvering required for the exit back to the road!

Dawn Patrolled up to Sunset today, actually pretty calm at the parking lot, al though a lot had been skied up that way, plenty of room to make your mark. Pretty good spot since the sun is still pretty low in the sky this time of the year.

Yup, I was about to get on the 9990 lift when ski patrol came through the line looking very rushed. About 30 mins later saw the chopper. Hoping for the best.

Yeah, they probably did a beacon/recco search depending on what ship was on scene and didn't get a hit so they are moving to dogs/probe lines.

Sad situation, but it was really bound to happen. PWL + storm this week + lots of new recreaters in the BC...

Even though I know ive been conservative most of the time, like many of us there were days looking back that the risk was higher than I wanted. It's sobering to think about how these small choices are the only things holding us back from what happened today.

Since Monday, west monitor, dutches, square top and the sound of music area have all slid. Given current conditions can’t the canyons ski patrol close the gate at the top of the 9990 lift? Today I almost took a picture of the duchess slide. Here is a picture of the recent square top slide

It's insane how much of the PC ridgeline has been sliding. Super sketchy up there right now.

I might get a detail wrong here, but,
the permit to build and operate that lift required a permanently open gate.
Believe it was Pave our Canyons pressuring the F.S.
    Tough hand dealt there.

My understanding is that patrol has never had the authority to open or close that gate. You leave it, you're on your own and the resort is never going to tell you that it's "okay" or not.

Given how often Sound of Music gets skied and how mellow and tasty it looks, it sure does move.

It sucks indeed that someone passed. I feel for the friends and family. I still believe in access to public lands and don't think Canyons/PC needs to do more. They have all the scary signs. Unfortunately, I believe this may be the first of many this year.

Don’t close the gate. Don’t even think about closing the gate.

I’m currently 2000 miles from there and I knew for certain some one was about to die just from reading this thread from time to time and glancing at the UAC site. They even said yesterday that luck was about to run out on someone. This was 100% predicable. Last few times I clicked this thread I thought to myself, I wonder who died.

While I'm not sure on patrol's authority regarding the gate, I have seen it closed before. It seems the laws/rules regarding the avy gate at PC aren't super well known. Interested to learn more about them if anyone knows.

I think certain prominent local folks have done the newer bc community or whatever a disservice by constantly hammering the pc ridge line and spraying about it. It’s always sketchy this time of year... thin and wind loaded is the norm

I agree with Mall Walker and unfortunately I think the Instagram Pic culture is here to stay.
