There was some cracking on some of the east facing 30 ish slopes inbounds. It’s an old layer out there for sure. Be safe

    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

^ went up Silver Fork, definitely felt very fragile, i actually backed off a skin track that traversed a 40+ degree slope into a gully terrain trap. My spidey sense told me to turn around...

definitely heard a few whomps and also the pole plunge as i went along you could feel that bridge layer then just nothing til you bottomed out. However did notice some of the facets are starting to coagulate when compressed, so that is hopeful

the signage gets ignored a lot, but there’s really not a ton of legal parking up there. you can’t park anywhere at the plow turnaround etc

Ventured into WP yesterday with no expectations other than testing out new liners and counting rocks + signs of instability. Found plenty of the former but barely any of the latter.
Coverage is thin at best and it's going to take another few feet to even attempt to hide the talus fields in the upper drainage. At 10k on N to NW aspects there's around 2.5' on the ground with the new snow having Sletted to about 1'. Below that it's an indescribably mess of facets and various crusts. Skinning on due W facing was actually tough with what a super stout crust below the fresh snow (sun?). Didn't find much energy in the snow pack, no cracking of any sort, only a few whoomphs around trees. It would be a very different story in wind-affected terrain but I felt that things lacked a bit of cohesiveness to be a major concern where I was (TriChutes aprons).

Gullies with more snow depth skied really well as long as you stayed light on your feet. Ms Boissal got a bit carried away and was attacked by a shark-log, I heard the sound of the ski hitting the wood and the subsequent face plant from 800' above. She laughed it off and insisted on another lap. We got chased away but a seriously wet patch of fog that rolled through and rimmed everything, very strange.

No injuries, no core shots, soft turns up high and high-speed battle skiing on the exit. Overall not great but certainly not bad, best day of the season for sure.

Last couple of hours of the day yesterday was some sort of freezing rain/sleet type precip at the bird. Exactly what our snowpack needs right now.

I think I may have seen you as well criscam. I vaguely remember a little ripper coming down past me as I was starting to skin up griz.

^^^ looks about right. I was incredulous when I wiped my goggles and realized water was falling from the sky and on my face. In December. WTF... Usually when it rimes it freezes on the lens and I scratch the shit out of it with my glove, at least this time I didn't ruin things.
