If they kick out lift-served mountain bikers right after finally replacing the slowest lift-served mountain biking almost anywhere in the West, well that would annoy the shit out of me.

WASATCH STOKE, CONDITIONS, OBSERVATIONS and ASSORTED DRIVAL 20-21

That chair got replaced?! Time to make a trip down there (next summer) The best trail bike lift serve in northern Utah, been a bit since I’ve been down there.

The article says the new investors are putting in a new high speed lift. I'm presuming it's replacing the lift that serves us bikers and hoping the luxury brand that bought the place doesn't nix having lift served biking.

Sundance with a high-speed lift just isn't right. I doubt they'll discontinue biking, but I could seem them pricing out the annual DH races. Those guys operate on a shoestring.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen that many people trying to get up the Big today. Wasatch was backed up both lanes all the way back to 215, as soon as I passed by the mouth of the Big it was smooth sailing all the way to Snowbird. Gonna roll 209 from now on.

Today was the day I found out standing in lines masked up while it’s snowing isn’t conducive to goggle use. I went through two lenses and then another pair and skied down bare eyed last run.

The canyon was the greasiest I’ve ever seen it on the way down. I’m rolling dedicated snows and usually have no troubles. I let a plow turn around in front of me at the top of 7 turns, he polished that shit ahead of me and from then on it was a struggle. I didn’t touch the gas from the bypass to the pump house. Traffic stopped and I started sliding into the stopped plow. I had to pull to the right off the shoulder to miss him and thought I was going to hit his side plow. I sunk in off the shoulder, thought I was fucked but I was able to fight it for about 20 yards before I popped back onto the road.

Other than the no vision it was fun to ski a storm day again.

Good to know. Did the snow approved tire lane save people much time getting up the canyon?

Nobody checking tires in the Little when I rolled by about 9ish. No traffic whatsoever after the Big. There is no doubt Snowbird’s limited parking is limiting people on the hill.

Yeah, what was the deal with BCC today? When I saw that line I started worrying about finding parking at Alta, but as you said once passed the mouth no problem at all. The limited parking also seems to be working, as the lines today we’re no problem at all.

If you didn’t worry too much about your bases, the ho was skiing very good this afternoon.

I don’t get it. I assume a lot of those cars would have been going to Solitude, but isn’t there almost nothing open? Sounds like a disaster in so many ways.

Apologies if not in the right place.... Looking for recs on a good bootfitter in SLC or PC. Picked up some Fischer Ranger Free's at L9 and need a small miracle in making room in the toe box.

Ikon here. I saw the trail report from Solitude and knew that it was a waste of time. Went to Deer Valley for the second week in a row and had a good time on some soft groomers. My goal is to utilize DV and LCC days by mid march (maybe save 1 lcc day). Ikon must really hate me. hahaha. I couldn't believe the **** show to get into Big Cottonwood Canyon either. Backed up to 215 is not a joke.

Mandy is a L9 millcreek(I think) employee and a great boot fitter.

Ever since they resurfaced the road is been slick as shit. The some what new road manager (I think he’s been in the job 4-5 years) hasn’t done the road any favors. He’s tried to reinvent the wheel, he’s the one who put the dividers in, has changed how they plow. The combination of the two has been a total disaster. Udot needs to be way more proactive plowing and salting. If you’re a bird skier I’d recommend parking at entry one. Those of us up in alta don’t even get to move until the bird is totally cleared out. I was hoping that the fewer amount of cars in the canyon would help but apparently not

I've heard from quite a few people that the new road surface is slicker than the old one. Wonder if it is a "tighter" packed asphalt and doesn't drain as much water?

Can you elaborate on how they plow now vs how they used to plow?

Me neither. Felt soft under the snowmobile tracks as I helped to restore power to the Albion basin. Always seems like there’s some power issue first snow of the year. Looks like more on the way!

Basically, whereas the old road manager was quick to get into the canyon and start plowing as soon as the first flakes fell. The new strategy seems to be wait for it to snow and get up there later

at solitude before 8 and people were in good spirits. dropped the 11yr old off at big mt and headed into silver fork. skied meadow chutes, 6-8” early, dust on crust. 8-10” late in east bowl, solid turns with face shots mixed in. 11 yr old said he had a blast today. only saw 2 people all day. pretty fun but snow requires attention. should be an interesting week.
