So I asked about Stevens night skiing reservations for passholders. Until now I've thought Vail Corp. was handling the challenges of this season quite well. This situation however is an abject failure:

"Thank you for reaching out to us today. We know night skiing is very important to our guests. We are aware of an issue that is currently allowing Night Ski lift tickets to be purchased but not allowing pass holders to make reservations with their passes if the date is already sold out. We are working to resolve this issue, so pass holders will continue to have first priority in our reservation system.

For now, if you are unable to make a Night Skiing reservation to ski on the day that you wish, please purchase a Night Skiing lift ticket online here:

    https://www.stevenspass.com/the-moun...nd-riding.aspx

After you are finished skiing for the evening you can stop by the season pass office to receive a refund. Please note that Night Skiing begins at 4pm.

We thank you for your patience as we work toward improving our new systems and processes."
Why is this an abject failure? Sounds like they are working to allow night skiing bookings on the website for passholders but for now they just ask you buy a ticket and then get a refund. Sounds like a reasonable workaround. I’m going to guess that most people who are skiing aren’t going to have a problem with a <$100 hold on their credit card.

    I'd say fail because:
    1. They've known they were going to have night skiing since forever
    2. Of course they've figured out a solution for paying customers that circumvents the reservation system, but left passholders out of the solution
    3. I really don't want to stand in line at the end of the evening with all other passholders waiting for a refund
    4. All it takes to solve this is to open up the reservation limit at 4PM on days when night skiing is offered, that's a few minutes of coding
Still a fan of the workaround offered?

I'm with you. They had many months to get this sorted out.

Skiing was fun today, I feel lucky to be skiing given the current state of affairs.

If you show up for a night ski (reserved or not) and are a pass holder they are going to let you ski. It's not that complicated.
Common sense. So rare today in America it's almost like having a superpower.

These days I'd be awfully hesitant to drive all the way to Stevens from Seattle just on the assumption that I'll get to ski, especially when the website says there are no reservations available.

Check tomorrow morning. I couldn't get night tickets for yesterday until yesterday morning.

    I hear you.

I was able to buy a day pass at the window (although it was midweek, prior to proper holiday madness) and they were nice about it even when I acknowledged I should have purchased online.

I wish I had a pass I would be happy to go up and test unreserved night skiing. I'm confident it would work. It's just insane to say that paying customers can't ski at off hours due to a reservation system shit show.

Fun turns at dweebus today with two of three thingz..... Fuck, those guys rip. So fun to watch. All with their own very distinct styles.

Lines got ridonculous pretty early and the hordes descended on a mountain with no upper lifts open until maybe 10:30. The lines didn't diminish much even after things opened up a little bit. All lots full except F which was half full. Sure didn't feel like reduced capacity. We got reservations for today just last night, which was interesting considering they know it would be shitshow with a storm arriving.

    Good ski day nonetheless!

Nice! Good to hear the upper Mtn opened eventually. I hear Greydon Clark turned around in The Claw.

I skied my first day at Alpental this season and is was seriously deep pow. Much enjoyment was had! I’m feeling lucky.

I watched Donnelly set up a yard sale off the summit of Mt. Adams.

Interesting, what year was this. I skied Adam's with him a while back. He hiked up the entire way.

I did the show-up-and-ask-forgiveness method for night skiing tonight and it worked fine. The line for the ticket window at 6:30 was not fine. Still zero lift lines, and the skiing was fun.

Hwy 2 westbound evening traffic looked rough, hope none of you were stuck in it.

Was at Central for a night skiing session with a couple of my kids. Snow was still great, though bumped up. Still snowing pretty good at last chair with snow all the way down to Exit 42. Praying for the freezing levels to stay low tonight and tomorrow.

He was with Justin Ashworth iirc. Not sure of the year but I can check. We leap frogged each other in the saw chutes. His wreck was off the top in view of the crowd at Pikers.

Indeed, I left at 2 to avoid it and could have walked faster through the Sultan corridor.

I left town at 0530 in anticipation of a road shitshow which was blissfully absent at that hour. Lifts spun before 0830 so not much time killing involved.

COVID Crowds + Holiday Crowds + Wind hold = turn around. Normally I'd wait it out reading the newspaper in the lodge, but these arent normal times.
