But choosing to go to Alpental/Summit from there isn't much different than a person in Issaquah going to Crystal. Everyone's calculus is different. I love Crystal's terrain and if it was just me skiing, that's probably where I would go. But it's not just me, so that adjusts my calculus. That's why we're all lucky to have choices, even though we all wish were had even more choices.
How do you know where people live? If someone lives in Tacoma or Olympia, they're supposed to drive to Snoqualmie?

It's pretty self centered to espouse what you did.

Where's the love and understanding? We're all in this shit together and the lack of empathy signals only weakness.

FWIW, according to the google machine, Lot 4 is about 20 minutes closer to Tacoma than CMR is, and Olympia is a few minutes closer to alpental as well.

What's the parking situation like at white pass? that seems like a old school family friendly place?

Fucking awful. Dont waste your time there on weekends. I am not joking. Lot attendants will cross park people behind you to the point you can't get out. Not to mention the overcrowding. I don't even go there on a pow day anymore if it's a Saturday or Sunday. Kevin just keeps overselling the passes year after year, and now you spend more time in line, than skiing. Weekdays...different story. If you can swing it, that's the time to ski at White. Otherwise, the amount of time it takes to get a chair ride on packed house days kills the enjoyment of the short laps there.

Maybe he has a pass at Crustal or has prepaid tickets, or has some other circumstances. I'm not sure I believe the goggles drives that stretch from Lakewood to Federal Way often.

The point is don't make decisions for other people, you have no idea what their constraints are.

If that's how you are reading things, I'm obviously not getting across what I'm trying to say and should probably just stop digging my hole. We have a few great ski hills here in this area. If Crystal/Stevens/Summit/Baker/White Pass are closer to you or you just like one better than the other, go ski there. All will face struggles this year dealing with Covid.

If you're dealing with kids in parking lots, I can emphathize with you because I have lived it, too. A lot. It can be rough. Taking little kids skiing is tough, regardless of where you are teaching them. The results of it, however, are worth whatever the headache you deal with to get there. SVS's stoke as well as Norse and others from this weekend show that. I can remember those days and actually miss them now.

Always a trip to realize just how centrally located snoqualmie is and how "far out there" both crystal and stevens are comparatively.

I dont think anyone was trying to make decisions for others. I took it as most folks saying which ski areas are most conducive to having young kids, and why those specific characteristics are so important. Also that its a fucky year and expectations surrounding the ski area experience should probably be tempered this year.

I didn't find any of the responses empathetic, just dickwaving.

Ha! You're a delusional wannabe tough guy. You might as well join your neighbors on the Culp train and just roll with it. Your guns should be all the protection you need.

Making light of the situation here, fuck off beater. This isn’t a game stay home. You know nothing about it. I just got back from work at the hospital, it’s getting grim.

Are people really this fucking clueless and selfish? You sound like the people you deride.

This has gone way too far from my push back to, "Haha, fuck the people with small kids this is a throw back to how it used to be and if you don't like it you need to harden the fuck up" which has now morphed into, "Well you're bad at making decisions and should ski somewhere else or stay the fuck home."

We all ski different places for different reasons, logistical, economical, philosophical, what the fuck ever. It does seem like if resorts are going to keep selling kids tickets and saying they're committed to keeping customers happy, they should do the bare minimum… like own enough outdoor heaters to supply more than a roped off restaurant area that's the size of my garage.

That some resorts have parking lots that are a pain in the ass to get to isn't a problem unique to one or two PNW resorts and other places are making it work. I grew up eating sack lunches in the basement of lodges and sometimes in cars, it's not like I don't know how this fucking works.

Anyway, here's some stoke from said little ripper back on Thanksgiving, just a chair pic since solo ski parenting of a 5-year old in the COVID era is challenging enough.

I'll deal with her gaper gap as soon as her head is big enough to fit real goggles.

What he said...parking in the lot can be a gamble, especially with a truck. FWIW the high 12 sold out on Saturday. That should give some perspective for dweebus refugees.

    Plenty of mags know me

Also, when she's with me I'm the only guy on the ski mountain with a 5 year old wearing ski gear and a climbing harness.

To all the piss drinkers out there...

You can still defer your Summit pass to next year.

    I recommend this.

I love that super secret backcountry stash, but I'm going to be a dick and reveal it's name: that's Origin Pond. It's near a ski resort with "valley" in the name or something like that.

Well said. We are fortunate to have our “outdoor recreation” opportunities and have to be creative to make things work for kids this year. Stay safe and good luck with your little gaper in training. [emoji16]
