Adjust expectations for this season to what they were in April... I.E. happy to have any lift served season at all. Its a bummer, but I bet ops steadily improves throughout the season as they and the clientele figure out how to best navigate this new normal in real-time.

Im sure ill have to catch myself a few times this season and remind myself to chill the fuck out. Especially when it comes to non-customers creating the shitshow.

It was actually a pretty cool atmosphere if one could let down the gnar guard. Lots of people out having a good time on a nice day. Kudos to Summit for letting people play before opening day. While there are lots of things to complain about these days I don't think this one is worth it

If they enforce the lot 4 pass holder parking and “sledders die by fire” rules we should be okay (that’s my rare optimism)

In the meantime I’ll be perusing the NYT for additional backcountry access insider tips just in case.

Zoo at West on Friday... If this season is anything like mountain biking was, and what we've seen at Crystal, it will be a shit show....

We didn’t have the right bindings to get them mounted before the shutdown last spring so not sure yet. My daughter is itching to get out on them soon to find out! She’s talked about them all summer and fall.

Lots we can criticize Crystal for, but I'd say they've generally excelled at opening shit.

Speaking of, what happened at Crystal today?
that's all i can think of, but i'm sure there's something else...

Storm skiing rools, especially in a PNW blaster.

Crustal was decent today. Left about 6:30, got to B lot by 8:15, traffic moved well. It had snowed 5-6" of light stuff ,but winds were howling at lot level.

Surprise was getting on Chinook before 9 and Rex was open, so summitted before 9:00. I honked around until after 1:00. Heard some bombs out Northway, but it never opened.

Up high, the winds had packed the snow, so it was a little brittle, but skied consistently until just above breakover/popes when it turned to Angel dust on loud crunch. Mid mountain had not been windpacked and the snow had no body, so that was dicey. Lots of face shots.

Upper Exterminator was similar with good skiing and coverage to keep you up off the crunch up high, but just too light and fluffy midmountain, the drifts were decent.

I think BC will be trickey, snow was shattering in spots where it had been windhammered.

The winds changed a bunch; out of the South last night, switching to North source during the day. The trick was mining the tree wales and pockets.

Some of the best skiing was lower Bull Run, Stumpfarm, Rolling Knolls and procourse drops into Green Valley. Avoid moguls, they're ratskrat merciless ice.

Looking down No Visibility out to the Upper Exterminator ridge:

Neither 6, the gondy nor Northway opened. But skiing was a blast. Virtually no lines, much better maskedness.

At least 30% off with no Canucks in attendance...
Common sense. So rare today in America it's almost like having a superpower.

That second pic has it all. Can't be beat. Might as well shut this thread down and start a new one.

Will be curious to see how the Stevens situation compares to Crystal. Passes go off sale on Sunday so only a few days to shake out how good or bad the situation will be.

We were so psyched with the dump a couple weeks ago, coverage was so good so early. Definitely need to remember that it's early December and if you're doing the traverse off 6, whatever skis you have brought are rock skis.
that's all i can think of, but i'm sure there's something else...

An endless chain of those slide-y boxes. I'm kind of surprised they're keeping it open. I mean a few rocks is one thing but there's a stretch of straight up dirt opening up

Anyone been up to Hurricane Ridge yet this year? I see they anticipate opening Sunday, but wondering what the snow conditions are like for a short tour around the area on Saturday.

Headed up to crystal tomorrow. Curious if I need to throw some bindings on the rock skis or if I'm cautious I'll be alright.
Anyone go up today or yesterday?
I know there's some rocks and dirt showing up off 6, no surprise there. Don't plan on getting super rad by any means
