What a bunch of whiny fuckers here. It’s skiing and I love it but there’s thousands of people dying daily from COVID and our election is in turmoil. Harden the fuck up. Pussies

    Hopefully COVID bankrupts these fucks.

For what it is worth, I have the ability to feel existential dread and be pissed off at the private equity group that owns the local ski hill. Some days it is a welcome distraction.

Skied crystal today, really good snow in places (especially for November 20th), and the coverage is already very good. Obligatory shot of Rainier. Lots of people not wearing masks on the upper lifts though, which isn't surprising.

Parking situation was interesting; I got there around 10am and B lot wasn't full but not too far off. I'm wondering how close to capacity they were today, in terms of reservations. Not going tomorrow, but I'll be interested to hear reports on the parking situation. I wouldn't be surprised if they were forced to turn people away. On the other hand, if a max capacity of 3000 people means that the lots don't fill up completely, then we won't have to go through the 6am departures we had to live through last season.

I don't understand why Crystal can't just allocate however many reservation spots there are for a given day and say first come, first serve. If you have a pass you specify that, if you don't you need to buy a day ticket or else you lose your spot. It seems like that would be the most equitable way to handle it.

Because that's not what pass holders paid for.

Yeah, well this isn't exactly the situation Crystal was hoping for either.

I believe that's what they are doing now? You make a reservation until the reservation system is full. Then that's it. No day tix should be sold when all the unlimited season pass holders have a first shot at reservations If there is still space available then sell day tix on line after 5PM or something. Now, whether you can get a parking spot is a different matter.

No, I'm saying first come, first serve regardless of whether or not you have a pass. I thought I read in this thread that they are allowing day ticket holders to get spots even when those days are shown as full for pass holders. I could be wrong. Trying to keep all these reservation logistics straight is not easy.

edit: this is what led me to that conclusion: https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...31#post6139631

So balance it on the backs of the consumers?

If someone pays for a season pass in the COVID time, it's not like Alterra didn't have a very good idea this was going to happen, the consumer is supposed to eat it and let someone else continue to pad Alterra's pocket? This is selling 2 tickets to the same seat at the stadium AGAIN.

It's not the consumer's fault here, it's the corporation's lack of planning and their misrepresentation of "priority" pass purchases.

With the system I proposed it wouldn't be. If you get a reservation you either "pay" for it with your pass or by buying a day ticket. If you're too late to get a reservation then you simply don't get one. There's no back door by buying a day ticket.

This is true. If Alterra told passholders they'd be getting priority then they need to honor that pledge. Having the back door method to buy your way in seems pretty slimy.

So if I show up late after paying for our unlimited seasons passes, drive 2 hours with the family spending $25 in gas, none of us can ski?

    Yes and yes.

(btw, we should take this to the Crystal is Alterra thread...)

Yes, back to actual stoke. This horse has been beaten enough. I think I'll conclude by saying any 'solution' sucks for someone.

    p.s. good stuff, Norseman!
