Same here, submitted around the 26/27th and got confirmation of free replacment (we're in the last month of our 5yr!) and a label on Friday the 6th. Mailed them out yesterday.

Just got my "hold on, we're overloaded" email (about 7 days from receipt of beacon)

    Dear Pieps Customer,

Your case is very important to us. Please know that your satisfaction is our #1 priority. Currently, we are processing higher than normal claims and working hard to address everyone’s needs as quickly as possible. Please be patient with us during this process, as we expect wait times to vary between one and two weeks, depending on number of claims and availability of beacon replacements.

    Sincerely,

    Pieps Customer Service

Fuck it, I just bought a Mammut Barryvox. Will keep my old DSP as a backup, or possibly trade it if I get a coupon. The public perception factor is a bitch. Even if I show up with a beacon that has a strong switch, I’m gonna be judged as an idiot. No go.

Just did the same, low hopes for getting a replacement from BD before I want to get out. I haven't even gotten a response yet.

I'm nearly there, and I have the previous generation. At this point, anything Pieps will likely be side-eyed or looked down upon. FML

I disagree with you guys. I will continue to use new Pieps/BD beacons and I am just fine with my partners using them. I’m just not the type to jump in with the social media mania.

Yup. I have zero issues with the current generation models.

Agreed. I've got a Barryvox S these days, and like it, but I'd be confident in the current Pieps/BD models too.

i sent mine in & told them i'd lost confidence in it given the slide/switch design had been updated twice to get away from the plastic detent
given its age/generation, i asked for a significant discount towards a new unit
    we'll see how they respond

[i also had a directly affected in-warranty unit to turn in as well]

Interesting. Mine has worked well, included plenty of tomahawks and beatering. Nonetheless, as a re-immigrant to my home ski region with no backcountry ski buddies. showing up at a trailhead with it may not get a second invite.

I'm sending mine in, but I wouldn't be bothered skiing with anyone who was aware of the potential issue and had evaluated their beacon and found that it seemed to work fine--the direct risk is to the person wearing the beacon, and if I'm skiing bc with someone, that's already an endorsement of that person's ability to evaluate risk.

I should clarify that I take people skiing into backcountry huts. Not a good look when your guide has to explain how his beacon “is one of the good ones, not the bad ones.”

    Pieps Beacons under fire

you can help kill the hype

part of a guide’s job is to educate

I understand. As a patroller I have many of the same responsibilities.

Sending mine in today. They responded to my initial request with the 100 buy up deal. I reminded them that I was well within the 5yr. warranty extension. They got back back to me and apologized for their oversight. Make sure you help them be aware of your extended warranty if you have it.

Agree 100%. If a partner or client is hung up on a brand and their issues with said brand can't be resolved with the explanation of "this is not a recalled beacon," then I think there's a larger issue with that persons perception and understanding.

For me avalanche safety is still a concept of the total package of products and skillsets. No persons skillset can be infallible and no product should be trusted as inherently fail-safe. You need to constantly work and improve your skills and constantly understand and improve your gear. I sent our DSP Sports in to be be able to get a better product, not because I assume that different product will absolve all possible issues.

For those of you are paying $100 to replace a beacon out of warranty, the Pieps Pro and Powder models are now back in stock. I'd order quick in case stock disappears quickly.

Sounds like you got a beacon finally, that's good news. [emoji106]

Still waiting on my replacement as well, so far I'm stuck in the "this might take a while" email. I won't have any problems using a new Pieps/BD beacon, they're still one of the better ones out there IMO. Other companies have issues, too. Anyone else remember the Ortovox M2?- that was a way sketchier beacon with a faulty battery compartment.
