CO Front Range BC ski question

Every day I drive to work and look at the glacier/snowfield on the NE side of Arapahoe or South Arapahoe Peak (at least I think that's what it is) in the IPW... I was just wondering, since I haven't seen any TR's on here about it- is it skiable? I'm assuming there's too much risk of an avy (in the winter/spring time) or its too soft, but I was just curious. What's the official info from the CO backcountry experts? It seems like someone would have skied it if it was doable, since it looks like its about 2000 vert, if not more.

strictly off limits. BoCo water supply you'll get a $10,000 ticket for attempting to do so. Tempting motherfucker though ain't it?

I believe the peak you're talking about is off limits because it is Boulder's watershed.Yeah I've looked at tit for years as well.

kindof a shame...would be the CLASSIC boulderite summer descent....

fairly easy access and lots of vert for summer in the front range...

i dont really get why its off limits though? big deal its a watershed....

people swim and use watercraft in the reseviors, but you cant lay a ski on a glaicer way outside of town?.....silly if you ask me

Damn that sucks... I had no idea. There are some kickass lines up there, and so close to Boulder. I guess it would be pretty worn out if you could ski it though.

A lot of Colorado watershed resevoirs are off limits to swimmers and/or motor boats. I think it's technically illegal to swim or motor boat in Gross Res. and Barker Res. above Boulder and you can't swim in Lake Dillon for example. I don't really know what the big deal is, water that comes out of those places is processed and all of our Colorado pee goes back into the Colorado River or the Platte and all the people downstream drink it up. Enjoy a little mellow yellow on us SoCal mags!
I think I read a TR over at telemarktips.com last summer about some people having to deal with getting chased and busted by cops up there when they tried to ski those snowfields.
